This delicious recipe figures into the story...

  • 3 16 ounce baskets of strawberries, washed, stems removed and cut in half
  • 1 bottle of dry red wine
  • 1 cup fine sugar

Mix wine and sugar, pour over berries, stir, cover and chill for 4-6 hours. Serve in pretty bowls or wineglasses. Top with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla bean ice cream and a almond cookie if desired.
