I’ve spent the last few days working on final galley edits for The Good Wife and it’s been intense. I love this book so much. I love it a lot. I think it’s my absolute favorite in the Brennan Sisters series. Maybe my favorite book I’ve ever written, and since I’ve had 43 published, that’s saying a lot.
The Good Wife is Sarah Brennan’s story. If you’ve read the first two books in the series, you’ve met Sarah already and you know she’s the youngest Brennan, beautiful, smart, and strong. At least that’s who I thought she was until I sat down to write her story. That’s when she showed me her true self. She might be a tough cookie on the outside, but on the inside, she’s vulnerable girl and still madly in love with her husband Boone. Here’s more about The Good Wife –
Is it possible to love someone too much?
Always considered the beauty of the family, the youngest Brennan sister, Sarah, remains deeply in love with her husband of ten years. Boone Walker, a professional baseball player, travels almost year-round while Sarah stays home and cares for their two children. Her love for her husband is bottomless—so much so that her sisters say it will end up hurting her.
Living apart most of the time makes life difficult, especially since Sarah often wonders whether Boone is sharing his bed with other women on the road, even though he swears he’s been true to her since his infidelity three years ago. While she wants to be happy and move forward in her life, Sarah constantly fears that Boone will break his promise. Now with Boone facing yet another career change, tension rises between the two, adding more stress to an already turbulent marriage. Emotionally exhausted, Sarah can’t cope with yet another storm. Now, she must either break free from the past and forgive Boone completely, or leave him behind and start anew…
The Good Wife is just a couple of months away from release and I’m starting to get super excited. I can’t wait to hear what you think of this book. I hope you’ll love Sarah as much as I do. You’ll also learn what happens with Meg and Jack, and Kit and Jude. There are surprises in store!
You can preorder your copy now:
Amazon
Barnes & Noble
IndieBound
But if you are also eager to read Sarah’s story now, I’ve a special treat for you!
I have one ARC (ARC = advance reading copy, uncorrected proof) of The Good Wife to giveaway to a lucky reader here on my blog. Keep in mind, please, that this is an ARC so there will be typos and mistakes. There will also be some scene changes in here which make it different from the final copy. If you want to wait and read the final copy, you can pre-order it now using one of the links mentioned above, but if you’re excited about getting a taste of what’s to come, comment below for a chance to win this ARC.
How to enter the giveaway? Leave a comment and tell me your impression of Sarah from the first two books OR, if you haven’t read the previous books, tell me what appeals to you about Sarah’s story from the blurb. I’ll pick a winner next week on Thursday, June 13th. Good luck and I can’t, can’t, can’t wait to hear what you think of my new Brennan Sisters book!
I really enjoy the character of Sarah from the first two books. I have been waiting to hear her story so I’m glad that this book will be coming out soon. I’ve loved this series so much and I can’t wait to read this book!
EEEEE!!!! I am so excited for Sarah’s story! My impression of Sarah is that she has been hurt and is strong and working through it, but is also needing someone to be strong for her instead of her being strong for everyone else. 🙂
I enjoyed Sarah in the first two books but also feel that she is lost without direction of knowing whether to stay or go. You can always love someone or love the person you WANT them to be and yet staying is really not the healthy choice. I am excited to see her complete story to see what direction it will go!
Oh, I am so looking forward to Sarah’s story! I enjoyed her character from the first two books and look forward to getting to know her better. I think it would be tough to be married to a professional baseball player, so it will be interesting to see how things go with Sarah and Boone. We are going on vacation in Sept for a couple of weeks…I hope I don’t miss the book signing! Congrats to you Jane on finishing the final edits on Sarah’s story.
I haven’t read the first two books yet (but plan to now–I love “family” stories…) but am drawn to Sarah. She definitely sounds like someone who feels deeply and I am really looking forward to reading about her journey of the heart.
I see a lot of me in Sarah, great at projecting a strong image , but secretly we are falling apart, and feel things more deeply then we let on. I can’t wait to read her story and ‘catch up’ with her sisters.
I haven’t read the Brennan Sisters but would absolutely love to escape into any story right now -tragic car accident killed two active members of our community and left 3 children parentless- my heart is heavy.
Sarah seems dedicated to her children and wants to trust/forgive – all are admirable qualities.
Hi Jane!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the Brennan Sisters series and I have to say Sarah intrigued me. Sounds like she has a glamorous, fast-paced life that many women would love to have and yet she isn’t happy. I’m also dying to hear more about Meg and Jack and Kit and Jude…
I cannot wait to read this book! I’m intrigued to see how continued issues with Boone play out, especially given her strong reaction to Meg’s infidelity. Sarah struck me as needing so much boosting of her self-esteem, I wanted to just push her to believe in herself, much like I did with Kit. I cannot wait!!!
I can’t wait to read this! It does bring back painful memories of my first marriage. He was unfaithful and forgiving is not easy but it is easier than forgetting. In the end, my trust was gone and so was the marriage.
I enjoyed the first two books but am really anxious to read about Sarah. I think there’s more to Sarah than we know…yet. She’s been such a faithful daughter, sister, mother and wife but, I think the world of doubt that she lives in is holding her back from truly living. I already pre-ordered the book to my Kindle but I am reading like crazy these days and need something new and juicy to get me through the last few weeks before summer vacation. I’d love to be your winner! Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with all of us.
I can not WAIT to hear Sarah’s story, I wonder how hers will be different since she lives far away from the rest of the family.
I would love to read the Sarah story. Can’t wait to find out how she works things out.
I can’t wait for the release of The Good Wife. I so enjoyed reading The Good Woman and The Good Daughter. I will so happy to get the next chapter in the Brennan’s family story
I’m so looking forward to Sarah’s story. I know she will surprise me as did her sisters. She is a beautiful golden girl that everyone admires. It looks like she has it all but she is insecure and feels that she doesn’t deserve to be happy.
I haven’t read the previous two books yet (they are on my to-read list though!). I can totally relate to that feeling of deep unconditional love for someone even though they have hurt you before.
I can relate to Sarah. She is so real to me. My husband travels a lot and some times it is hard being the one at home. It all seems glamorous. Now that my children are grown, I have traveled more and now I see that it isn’t always as much fun as I thought he was having without me. I have read the other two books and I am looking forward to this one.
I’ve never read Ms. Porter’s work but after reading about the books, I’m excited to pick them up. I love a good series!
I love the storyline of this book….I want to read this.
I am ashamed to say I am unfamiliar with Jane’s books and know I have really been missing out. I need to fix that soon!
Sarah fascinates me because I think there are a lot of very strong women out there with husbands who aren’t always reliable and motivated. Many of us have been taught that the man is always supposed to be the strong one in a marriage but that’s not always the case. More times that people realize, it’s the woman who keeps everything together and shoulders most of the burden.
I cannot wait to read Sarah’s story and catch up on all the goodies that I have been missing from Jane Porter.
Thanks for the generous giveaway. Crossing my fingers in hopes of winning.

Sarah is so in love with her husband, she was able to overlook his cheating, and not spending time at home. I loved that she tried to be there for her sisters when they did not always understand her marriage.
I have read all Jane’s books! I would recommend to all young mothers!
I’d love to read it now!!
i am soo excited to read about sarah’s life in your next book. i too have been in sarah’s shoes before, but thank goodness i got out of them!
I’ve read both previous books. I’m not sure Sarah is one of my favorite characters. Not having gone through what she has, I just can’t justify staying with a husband that cheats. One a cheater always a cheater. But I guess she has to be pretty strong to try to keep her family together. Can’t wait to read it though.
What an exciting concept. Reaaly looking forward to how she solves her dilemma.
Hi Jane,
I have pre ordered 3 copies for me and my friends. I’m very much looking forward to reading The Good Wife.
Sarah has been somewhat a mystery to me. She sounds like a strong wife and mother but the way you have written her feels like she has a big secret. I hope she gets her own happy ending what ever that may be.
I would love a chance to read about her now, even with typos and different scenes.
It would be like getting a chance to read the same story twice.
Have a great week
I love your Brennan Sisters novels. Im so looking forward to read about Sarah’s life because on the last two novels sounds like she is nice person and go through lot with her life. On July my family and I will be traveling to SF and Santa Cruz and hoping that we will see what you were writing about the locations based in!
I have been looking forward to this book since I finished The Good Daughter. Sarah, to me, is a fighter. A fighter to stay in her marriage even though she could lose her husband at any moment. A fighter through her fears, but still very vulnerable.
Thank Goodness this book is finally on it’s way into my hands!!
I would love the advanced reading copy of The Good Wife. I absolutely love this series and relate most to Sarah’s character. I can’t wait to read all about her and her family!!
Would love love to read ! Sarah appears strong, but very soft and vulnerable inside. Would love to see the continued story
sounds like an amazing book ! i always enjoy a great read
Can’t wait to read it hear!!!! Please pick me!!! Love ya Jane!!!
It’ll be interesting to see how Sarah decides what’s best for her and her family.
I can’t wait for her story! I had the feeling something was going on with her, but it was a big mystery!
I am SO SUPER excited for this book and would love to win a copy!!!! I feel there is so much more to Sarah than what we learned in the first two books…can’t wait to hear her story!!
She sounds interesting because she’s smart
I have felt sorry for Sarah. She just seems sad to me. She can’t get over Boone’s infidelity, and it seems it’s killing her slowly inside. CANNOT wait to read The Good Wife!!!
Amy P
My impression of Sarah is that she’s a family oriented person, loves her husband very much but is a little insecure.
I can’t wait for The Good Wife to come out!!! I’d LOVE an ARC!!!
I have enjoyed reading this series. I think that Sarah has been consistant through the first two books. From her perspective, her sister Meg did something that Sarah would have a hard time forgiving having been on the receiving end of infidelity. In the second book, she didn’t have as strong a presence because of the storyline. I ma looking forward to see how her life works out.
I find it interesting because marriage is hard and Sarah seems like a women who will make sure she lives the life she deserves, weather with or without a man….never read your books but need to add them to the TBR pile!
Mrsmommybooknerdsbookreviews at gmail.com
As the youngest, I think Sarah kept her feelings inside because she saw her sisters weaknesses and didn’t want anyone to see hers. I think maybe Sarah cares a bit too much what others think about her….because everybody thinks she is strong and self confident, and she knows that she isn’t. I can’t wait to read her story.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. I love all your books. Congrats on finishing it:-) Enjoy some time for you now.
A tough storyline. It’s much easier to forgive than it is to deal with the insecurity and doubt after such a betrayal. Knowing weakness and insecurity probably put them in the situation in the first place doesn’t really help you to feel more confident it won’t happen again…. Eager to see how things are handled in the story.
Sounds awesome!
I love the series and from the books so far I see Sarah as a woman who carries loads of responsibility on her shoulders. She is the matriarch of her marriage. Keeping everything and everyone in her home glued together while she is secretly dissolving into her fears and regrets. This makes her very vulnerable to the many dangers around her like the alcohol use and the paranoia regarding her marriage’s fidelity. I can’t wait to read it Jane, seriously. Most women cave under the stress over time of trying to carry the unpleasantries of marriage instead of requiring help from other family members including their spouse. I am so interested in reading how she will handle this crossroad in her life.
I LOVE this series, and your books get better and better with each new one. I know this will be amazing! I have already pre-ordered several copies to pass out to friends.
My impression of Sarah was that being the youngest she was kind of sheltered by her family and when she has a problem she deals with the only way she thinks she can. (I don’t want to give any spoilers from the 1st 2 books) She is headstrong and determined too.
I like Sarah. She sounds like a devoted wife and mother, who has lots of issues in our modern day world. I’d truly love to read this book
I can’t wait to see how Sarah’s story plays out in her book. I want to see if her marriage in which she is deeply in love with her husband survives, and if she can overcome her anxieties about his infidelity from before.
I really relate to Sarah & Meg the most. I’m most curious to see the story behind Sarah and her husband. What is going on there? I’m certain you have something juicy planned for us! I’d love to win the ARC. so, I have something to ask you, it goes like a knock knock joke.
Knock, knock. (You know the reply)
The one ( The one who?)
The one who WILL win this ARC!
thanks for the chance to read this fabulous novel 🙂
I was already excited to read this book, but now that you say it’s probably the best one you’ve written, I’m even more excited. I do believe you can love someone too much. I asked my ex for a divorce because I knew I didn’t live up to his expectations of me. I failed in one of the main areas he always preached to me to keep under control (spending money). I won’t get in all the details, but I’ll say it was very bad. And, I do still love him even though we both have new lives and people in them. I will never forgive myself for messing up that bad. at least we remained friends through it all. I believe Sarah has some big shoes to fill with her life and she tries to stay strong through it all. But, inside, I think she is hurting with all her fears of Boone and the women who want him. It would be a tough place to be in. I have my book pre-ordered already and even paid for the quick shipment because I am so anxious to read this one.
Ooooooh! What a great giveaway! (As they all always are!)
Sarah appealed to me because she has that ability to appear fine, although she isn’t. I WISH I has that. You can tell every single emotion by my facial expression and I hate being that vulnerable.
Good luck with the edits! Can’t wait to read this!
Hi! What a great give-away who wouldn’t want to read this story early, I’m looking forward in reading Sarah’s story. She loves her husband dearly but didn’t the back of her mine, rather woman’s intuition she knows her husband is fooling around, of course you never want to just end the marriage. I’m in the middle of getting a divorce, and didn’t want to end it but when its only one person making the effort to keep it together, I’m calling it quits, and not feeling like a failure, like I did in the beginning. I’d love to read it first! Have a nice evening and weekend!
It takes a strong woman to be the wife of a professional athlete. She’s a single parent most of the time. If she wants the marriage, she’ll fight for it; if not, she’s smart enough to walk away. In the end, it will be her decision.
I’m looking forward to meeting the real Sarah. I think she is a dedicated sister, mother and wife. But, I don’t think Boone appreciates this wonderful woman. It might be time for her to reevaluate her marriage. Whatever happens, I’m sure this book will be awesome-I can feel it!
I am really looking forward to reading the Good Wife, but I am sad that this will be the last book in the trilogy! I really think these are your best books yet. I don’t remember that much about Sarah from the first 2 books, other than she was married to a ball player and she didn’t live near her family. I look forward to hearing her story and getting to know her character!
What a great giveaway! I’m so anxious to read Sarah’s story. My impression of her is that she’s strong but she’s stuck in the current version of her life. She doesn’t know what to do that won’t hurt anyone, herself included.
I always get butterflies in my stomach when I read stories that have infidelity in them. Especially when I read how devastated the other partner and their kids are when the truth comes out. In Sarah’s case, I’m eager to see how she weathers the doubts she has about Boone, the imminent death of her beloved mother, how she and the kids handle it all. I’m also eager to catch up with the rest of the Brennan sisters.
Please, please don’t make me wait until the book is published for general consumption. I happened to read a little teaser somewhere and it left me in agony. I must have more of The Good Wife!
I have to say I think I relate more to sarah then any of the other sisters mainly because me and my better half have spend many months apart ad something happened a few yrs ago that make me question things even more I really want to read her story and have to know what happends next
I like her because we have a lot in common, Sarah and I. We both took our vows seriously, sticking it out through thick and thin, bearing up under the pressure of dealing with single parenthood even though you are married and feeling the burden of being the only one to hold everything together. Waiting somehow for balance to be restored and hoping that the other shoe (the threat of what happened before recurring) doesn’t drop! It’s a difficult place to be in, an untenable life to have to live. Your Joy in life is ripped away…even though part of it is your own fault (moving past it has become so hard and because though you know you need to since you chose to stay…you just haven’t been able to do it).
Anyway that’s why I like Sarah!
Best wishes to whoever wins the book…and I can’t wait for its release Jane!
I have only read the first book and really enjoyed it. I liked Sarah, but wasn’t sure why she put up with what she did from Boone. I can’t wait to read her story and find out what happened with her.
I thought she seemed kind of needy, and a bit like a doormat in the other books. Hopefully we’ll get to see a better side of her.
Wow! I can’t wait to read Sarah’s story! There is so much there. I can’t wait to learn more about her and Boone (we have not really met him yet…) and see if she can find herself and her confidence again. I also can’t wait to see what happens with Meg and Jack and Kit and Jude…and the rest of the family. There is so much to look forward to!
I’m excited to read more about Sarah. She seems like a strong, confident woman…at least projecting that image, while still actually being vulnerable.
Can’t wait for the new book!
I have read THE GOOD DAUGHTER, THE GOOD MOTHER & hoping to win a copy of THE GOOD WIFE. What a delightful trio!
I like to think that Sarah will eventually reflect on the fact that she has tremendous strength in her self and has been the glue holding her kids and family together. I think this Brennan family has instilled great family values in each member to reflect on and draw from. I hope Sarah realizes she holds the key to her own happiness through all this.
I would love, love to have an advance copy of your Good Wife! Anxiously awaiting another of your great reads!
Hi Jane,
My impression of Sarah is that she is a little dark. I think she loves her family and her husband but is scared to really open up about how she really feels about her husband.
I can’t wait to read her story. I’d love an ARC.
Always,
Melinda
Love your books, can’t wait to read this one!
Sarah is the baby sister yet so strong as she raises her family with Boone absent. She seems to have a tender inner peace yet a strong resolve to help her family. I wonder whether she has any secrets…
I was hoping Sarah would get her own book. My impression of Sarah is that she has been hurt and needs someone to lean on.
I loved the first two books.I found that I could relate to Meg in how she was feeling with the kids and everyday life. But i couldn’t wait for Sarahs Story.I feel that Sarah and I may I have a lot in common living so far from family and where we grew up to be with the Men we love . Raising our kids with our husbands gone so much . I cant waitto find out where her road takes her and how her family is now !
Can’t wait to read Sarah’s story. She has always tried to be strong, so I am glad you are making her vulnerable. So excited for you. I am sure it will be a great book and one that we will all love!
My impression of Sarah from the first two books is that she is very much in love with her husband, and wants to keep her family together if she can. She did seem a bit of a mystery to me, so I can’t wait to read The Good Wife! I’d love to win!!! 🙂
I have not read the books yet (waiting for this one to come out) but my impression is that she loves her husband and is in constant fear that he will or has cheated on her. My take would be that either she has watched people in this situation or it has happened in the past by a past lover.
yay..can’t wait!
I loved She’s Gone Country, and though I despise cheating, I sometimes gravitate towards books that feature that theme (Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin is one of my all time favorite books) because it is interesting to know how people handle those raw emotions that cheating elicits and learn about their reasons/excuses for forgiving or moving on. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I am very interested in them.
🙂 I would LOVE to read the ARC of this book & then compare it to the final version. Cool!
And Sarah always struck me as wounded. Just that way from the start. I am a glass-half-empty girl and I fell that when it comes to her marriage, Sarah is as well. She’s always waiting for the worst to happen …
🙂
I would say that Sarah loves her husband more than she loves herself. Is this a weakness or a strength. It depends on your perspective.
Well my friend, I am super excited to read this story and to find out about Meg and Kit! I pre-ordered it back in February. 🙂
I couldn’t live in the marriage that Sarah does–ever. Your love may ying-yang over the years with raising children and living a busy life. But if you don’t have trust, you have nothing and no reason to be in the marriage. Of course that’s my humble opinion!
I’ll be doing a happy dance when that baby downloads to my Kindle in the middle of the night. 😉
I have to say I’m pretty happy that it’s so looooong–432 pages is a lot!
Much love to you all weekend long.
Shannon
I have not read any of the books in this series. But it sounds like I need to start ASAP! What grab me in the synapsus was baseball. I know it’s not a major subject but I do love baseball!
When I think of Sarah I think of a sweet, family oriented girl.
Sarah has some hard decisions to make and her story touches me. If she were a real person, I would want to be her friend and give her a hug.
I’ve read the first two books. I can’t wait for The Good Wife. Sarah may be a little depressed from the events of the past. I think she is worried about her children.
I’ve read and enjoyed the first two books. Can’t wait to read Sarah’s story. I am curious to learn more about Boone. We have seen bits and pieces of Sarah but not much about Boone so far. I am looking forward to seeing the dynamic of their relationship.
I can not wait to learn Sarah’s story! I liked in the good Daughter that Sarah was present a little more! Looking forward to reading about her!
First of all I must say that you hit it right on with the covers of your Brennan triology. Its so soft warming and beautiful. Sarah appeals to me because she is a little like myself. I always have that insecurity of whether my husband is doing wrong because it has happened before. I would love to read her story and be able to relate it to my life. I love your real women issues Jane, not so many people are brave to write like you do and that is what makes you so wonderful.
Sarah seems the most insecure of the sisters. Is it that she is the baby so everyone took care of her or could it be because she is so beautiful and that makes some things easy, but then you know that someday you will be older and is her husband fixed on youthful beauty and will stray again? Maybe both and also feeling not as smart or as strong as her older sisters?
I can’t wait to find out what happens to Sarah and if her marriage makes it through the tough times.
I am Salivating the arrival of Sarah’s story…can’t wait! Love this family and the Brennan Sisters dynamics. Awesome books!
I can not wait to read The Good Wife…Sarah’s story appeals to me because she tries so hard to make her marriage work despite the obstacles in her way. I am so curious to see how it plays out!!
Cindy
It would be awesome to get an advanced copy of The Good Wife! Sara seems to be a strong woman who will do anything to keep her family together. I cant wait to see what happens.
I’m looking forward to reading more about Sarah, and finding out more about her relationship with Boone and if she’ll stay with him or find someone new.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the interesting comments about Sarah. I can’t wait for you to read her story!
