Fifty Shades of Grey Discussion

On Friday, May 18th, I am hosting a one-time only book club event in Bellevue to discuss the book by E.L. James that everyone is talking about. Fifty Shades of Grey has been talked about on the news and T.V.  It’s also been the topic of discussion on social media sites and various other online forums.  A lot of my friends have read it too and I thought it might be interesting to have a group discussion about it.

If you’ve read the book, live in Greater Seattle, and think this sounds like your kind of thing, I’d love to have you join us for the evening. We’ll be meeting at a Bellevue location at 6pm on Friday, May 18th.   Drop me a note at jane(at)janeporter(dot)com and I’ll send you more details!

  1. Welcome back home Jane. I hope you had a wonderful writing trip. Since I’m in So. Cal I won’t be able to make the discussion, but if you schedule any once you are settled in your new home not too far from me, then I’ll be happy to attend.

  2. Welcome home! I’ve read fifty shades of Grey, wish i lived in your area would join in your discussion..our library here in north fla. won’t have it on its shelf..but a friend of minw gave me the book ot read and she has book 2 and 3..I enjoyed it but some of my friends thinks thats its not proper reading material, thats their opinion, I have read a few others authors that i enjoy alot more, like Lora Leigh and Margie Church and a few others. This guy friend who name Trey took it home wioth him, he’s on the road alot so I can’t wait to hear on what he thinks about…we talk on the phone and he keeps telling me wait until I see you…thats been over 3wks. so will see…what do you think about this book? My sex life sucks at the moment so books like this keep me dreaming but then I’m quite happy…with a man like Ty you have no problems…have a Happy Mother’s Day!

  3. Everyone is talking about this book. Is it attention worthy though? I have not read it, so I could not say.

  4. Happy Mother’s Day, Jane! Wish I could participate, but I am sure that you will have a great time. I have the book, but haven’t read it yet. Hearing a wide range of comments on it, though.

  5. Happy Mother’s Day, Jane! Enjoy your time with the boys. I haven’t read this book, but I have certainly heard a lot about it. I would be interested in your thoughts about the book.

  6. Happy Mother’s Day. I have read the trilogy and wish I could attend. I certainly have a few opinions about the style of writing, lack of structure and overuse of concepts. Kind of like beating a submissive into submission! Sorry, couldn’t resist. And lastly, how insulted I was to have the third book end in such a remedial, childish like manor. I felt like I had just finished a fourth grade essay. Please finish your up coming book so I can have a quality book to read!

  7. Welcome home! Hope that you had a great Mother’s Day!

I hope that you are able to do this kind of events when you move down to CA, so that I can attend.

I have not read this book yet, but I will because of hearing so many people talk about it.

I did think that it was kind of funny the other day I saw a lady, who I would guess was close to 70 reading it in the doctor’s office waiting room. I couldn’t wondering how her blood pressure was going to be!

Also If you haven’t seen the skit Saturday Night Live did last week, it was really funny.

  8. Hey Jane,

Your gardens are beautiful and I can see why it is so bittersweet for you to leave. I am so looking forward to the long weekend so that I can do some needed gardening and plant my pots and like you sit outside and have my coffee and admire my gardens. I am on the second Grey Book and I look forward to sitting back and getting into that as it is going to be a beautiful weekend here in Ontario, Canada! Good Luck with your packing!

  9. I have read this book and was disappointed…the bondage stuff wasn’t the thing that upset me as was what happened after….I just don’t get the appeal about physically hurting someone you supposedly care for and liking it! Will not buy 2nd or 3rd book. I hope teenagers and young adults don’t get the impression that this stuff is okay.

  10. The 3rd in the collection, Fifty Tones Freed, is …
Oh exactly what am I doing? You’re visiting review it.
Certainly you’re going to review it. You have actually most likely already review
