Summer Fun: The Good Wife ARC

Happy 4th of July!  I just wrapped up my next Harlequin Presents a few days ago so I’m keeping festivities simple, but do plan on heading down to the pier to watch the fireworks with my sister, Kathy, who arrives tomorrow with her lovely daughter to spend the holiday weekend with us. Can’t wait!

Speaking of summer fun, I started an official Release Day countdown. The Good Wife, Sarah’s story and the third book in the Brennan Sisters series, will be out in just two months from today. I’ve also introduced another pair of sisters in book and I have to say I love them just as much as I love the Brennan girls. Another reason to celebrate! If you’re loving the Brennan Sisters series, I guarantee you’ll enjoy Sarah’s story.  I had a few friends read it recently and it thrilled me to hear their feedback.  I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Is it possible to love someone too much?

Always considered the beauty of the family, the youngest Brennan sister, Sarah, remains deeply in love with her husband of ten years. Boone Walker, a professional baseball player, travels almost year-round while Sarah stays home and cares for their two children. Her love for her husband is bottomless—so much so that her sisters say it will end up hurting her.

Living apart most of the time makes life difficult, especially since Sarah often wonders whether Boone is sharing his bed with other women on the road, even though he swears he’s been true to her since his infidelity three years ago. While she wants to be happy and move forward in her life, Sarah constantly fears that Boone will break his promise. Now with Boone facing yet another career change, tension rises between the two, adding more stress to an already turbulent marriage. Emotionally exhausted, Sarah can’t cope with yet another storm. Now, she must either break free from the past and forgive Boone completely, or leave him behind and start anew…

Part of my 4th of July celebration with my sister includes making fun blender drinks for hot summer days and this weekend, we’ll be whipping up a batch of Princesstinis.  Remember those from The Frog Prince novel?  Here’s the recipe if you want to give it a try!

frog_215Princesstini (Raspberry Cocktail)

1 oz. raspberry flavored Vodka
1 oz. Triple Sec
½ to 1 oz. lime juice (depending on personal taste)
1 oz. cranberry juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.  Shake for a full minute so it gets really chilled.  Pour into a martini glass and serve.

And to wrap it all up with some fun for you, I’m offering up another ARC to one lucky winner!  For a chance to win, leave a comment and share what your favorite summer drink is or tell me about your plans for the holiday weekend.   This will be a shorter contest than last time so be sure to comment by Sunday afternoon at the latest as I’ll pick a winner Sunday evening!

  10. Happy 4th of July Jane.
I love strawberry daiquiris and they love me.

I have no plans for the 4th, will plan to watch some fireworks. Also, I need to work Friday, as I have a ton of work going on. Otherwise, I would take a 4 day weekend.

  16. I have to work on the 4th of July 12:30-9:10 pm. Hopefully I will be able to take the little ones to see a display. If not, I hope you enjoy your mail the following day (work for post office). I will be looking for my prize in the mail Jane!!!

  17. Can’t wait to read your new book!!

Favorite summer drink (ok, year-round drink 😉 ) is a lime margarita.

Enjoy the 4th of July festivities!

  18. My favorite summer drink is an iced tea! I know, it’s not a fruity drink with a cute paper umbrella, but it’s what I enjoy. For the 4th of July my husband and I are taking our daughter to a parade and then to the town park for festivities. Happy 4th, Jane!

  19. I have just recently discovered iced coffee so I would have to say that is my current favorite drink. Oh yeah, and those alcoholic frozen drink buckets. Can’t forget those! Happy 4th everyone!

  20. Hubby and I are going to Universal Studios for the day then home to BBQ. My fav drink in the summer is ice tea!

I can’t wait for for the new book. I’m so hooked on this series.

    Have a happy Fouth!!!

  21. My favorite summer beverage is a homemade wine cooler. I prefer using a darker wine; a good cab or merlot and mix with sprite and a shot of orange juice. Yum.

For the 4th my youngest and I are heading to a local festival and watching a free Foreigner concert! Woohoo! Can’t wait.

    Have a wonderful sparkle-day!!

  22. wow! Those Princesstinis sound yummy!! I’m a big mojito fan and could drink those all summer! Have fun with your sister and save a drink for me!

  23. I love iced cold coffee. I make a pot of coffee and put it in the fridge to cool it and add ice cubes and a bit of milk. Also I love white and red wine. I have no plans for the weekend! I have just came back from a two weeks trip to Scotland. I would love to read your book!

  24. I’m sharing the drink with friends…also heading to upper Michigan for an informal memorial service for relatives who passed away this spring and staying for a few days. Weekend with mixed emotions!

  25. My favorite summer drink I discovered when I had way too much watermelon left over and saw all that fabulous juice in the bottom of the bowl. I mix it half and half with vodka and shake with ice, strain into the martini glass. Garnish with a small slice of watermelon on the edge of the glass. I’ve shared this with many friend over on Facebook and all who have tried it have loved it too. It’s quick, easy and very refreshing. I think I’ll make some this weekend. Also, if you don’t have a lot of juice, I have mashed the watermelon into juice with a potato smasher.

Enjoy your 4th of July and have fun with your family.

No plans here since my husband now works 6 days a week. He will only get the 4th off and plans to do his yard work then.

  26. In Canada, July 1st is our big holiday, but I hold July 4th dear to my heart with the strong American roots I have….So on July 1st we went and watched the fireworks here…..Hope you have a great holiday!
    Lisa McManus Lange

  27. My favorite summer drink is plain old simple lemonade. Nothing beats lemonade for quenching your thirst on a hot and muggy summer day. As far as plans for the 4th – fireworks with my daughter, and probably a day trip to see some local waterfalls in the area. With all the rain we’ve gotten over the past few months there should be plenty of water flowing!
Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

  28. sweet tea

They’re already lining main street with blankets and chairs for the parade–there will be fireworks at night, too!

  29. Hi Jane! Happy 4th of July! One of our favorite drinks for adults is the blue lagoon.
    1 shot Blue Curacao
    5. oz. Lemonade
    1 shot Vodka
Pour vodka and curacao over ice in a tall glass and then fill to top with Lemonade.

  30. My favorite summertime drink is anything fresh & fruity! Stick an umbrella in it and I will probably like it! 😉 As for holiday plans I will most likely just watch fireworks from apartment window … I LOVE fireworks. Boyfriend has to work so that pretty much takes the fun out if anything else I might think to do. 🙁

  31. This is the best summer drink!
    1cup of blueberry lemonade
2 shit glasses of pineapple Malibu Rum
    Splash of sprite
    Blend
    Mmmmmm!

Can’t wait to read the newest book. I’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival.

  32. The beautiful Pacific Northwest is sizzlin’ this 4th of July. I hope everyone is careful with those fireworks! Happy 4th of July everyone….and please stop and take a moment to remember those 19 that lost their lives fighting fires in AZ.

  33. I guess I would say lemonade is my favorite summer drink. Tomorrow, for the 4th, we are having a few relatives come over to our house for a little get together. Then on Saturday we are going to a big BBQ feast at a friend’s house! Happy 4th to you and your family. Enjoy the fireworks.

  34. In Avila watching the kids play in the surf. Celebrating the 4th with friends and fireworks. Nice!

  35. I am a nurse, so will be working the holiday weekend. Nothing better than sangria in the summer. Love the Brennan sisters.

  36. The morning of the 4th of July, is the local small town parade. The entire community turns out, and it is a great small town event. Flag raising by the Boy scouts, strawberry shortcake at the Senior Center, tractors and little league teams in the parade. I love it! Later in the afternoon we head to friends for a massive badminton tournament, brackets and everything. The night ends with a fireworks show on the local lake, sponsored by the local homeowners. It’s really a great day.

For a favorite drink on the 4th, I’ll take whatever is cold. 🙂 But I will email you a killer recipe that we make on New Years, using cranberries, mandarin oranges, vodka and grand marnier. It’s so good!

    Have a Happy 4th!

  37. My favorite cocktail is Spiked Blackberry with Sweet Tea. Made with fresh blackberries. Since we are having the holiday at home I just might sit back, read and have one.

  38. Happy 4th of July, Jane!

My favorite summer drink is a Strawberry Daiquiri. I recently enjoyed one at Mexicali the other night. Refreshing. Fruity. Thirst-quenching.

Would love to win an ARC of The Good Wife. Loved the first two in the series. xo

  39. We traveled from SC to Cincinnati this week to vacation with extended family. We’re excited about going to a Cincy Reds baseball game and watching the fireworks show @ King’s Island on Thursday night.
I plan to enjoy a few ice cold Michelob Ultra beers before & after the show.

  40. For me is making my own Ice Tea..I like to sweeten it myself..I don’t like it too sweet.. Lots of ice and lemon and I am good to go..

  41. I like the punch like alcoholic drinks like Strawberry Daq, Strawberry Margarita, Strawberry or Peach Bellini, Mimosa. Mmmmmm. 🙂

  42. We enjoy a drink called Jallab. It’s made grape and date molasses, sugar and rose water. I suspect we’ll be drinking a nice iced drink of this on the weekend. We are staying home this holiday weekend, working in the garden and appreciating the freedom we have in this country.

  43. Hi, Jane! I love a lychee martini or a chilled glass of white wine. Antything’s good as long as I’m relaxing in some summer sun!

Can’t wait to meet Sarah! Have fun with your sister and niece!

    Warmly,
    Sara

  44. Margarita or Straw-bet-Rita equal the perfect summer drink. Although I wouldn’t turn down a cool Vodka tonic with lots of limes.

  45. Oh man…my fave summer drink? Okay, I know it sounds kinda lame but it’s these chocolate smoothies I make. Seriously awesome! As for my holiday plans – the 4th is actually my hubby’s birthday (Yay!!) so the kids & I’ll be showering him with lots of love in the form of hugs, a gift certificate to get a therapeutic massage (shhhh!) and some yummy steak & potatoes for supper. We may even venture over to downtown Edmonds to watch the fireworks (no WAY I’m battling I-5 for Seattle’s show…nope, nope, nope!). 🙂

  46. My favorite summer drink is a long cold iced tea! Love it when it is sooo hot outside and a good cold drink.

  47. We will be spending July 4th with our grandchild- ren in The Woodlands(just
north of Houston.) Oh, & and with their parents, too! There will be lots of good food and if the weather co-operates, a fireworks display.I’ll be having my summer favorite drink which is called an
    “Arnold Palmer.” It is
    half tea & half lemonade,
    with lots of ice!

  48. Well for the first time I’ll be missing fun July 4th festivities. All the kids have plans with friends, and my sister is moving. So, I’ll be carrying boxes and pushing furniture around. Not fun at all. Since my Hubby is working his 24hr shift,(Firefighter) on July 4th, he said we’d celebrate together on Sunday by going to our new Drive In!! Im definitely looking forward to that!! Winning your book on the same day would make all my hard work worth missing fireworks!!

  49. Favorite summer drink is a vodka lemonade or grape vodka and Sprite. I will be keeping the 4th pretty low key. I have to work on Friday, so no fireworks for me.

  50. Hi Jane! My favorite summer drink is Iced Tea. Actually, I drink it all year ’round. Some of the new Tea with Lemonades are awesome too. I have all of your books starting with The Frog Prince, up thru the 2 other Brennan Sisters books & would love to add this one to my collection! Have a Happy 4th!

  51. I spent this past weekend with my sister’s for our forth of July dinner. I usually have a few drinks with my sister but was afraid to drink this year with the medications they have me on right now. We still had a good time though. My older sister lost the site in one of her eyes and we have been worried about her. She has a stroke in the eye so she want get her site back. She is a big reader also so I kind of sad about that. She will still be able to read but not as good as before.

  52. No big plans here in Lodi,CA just going to spend time with the family, not planning on being outside much, it is supposed to be 104 with rain.

My husband has been working so hard at his job, we plan to just kick back and relax for this 4th of July. No doubt we will fire up the grill, perhaps see a movie and I know that my nose will be stuck in a good book!

    Blessings!
    Judy B

  56. We will be heading downtown for the BIG fireworks, a cookout with friends and family, my favorite drink in the summer is a lemon shakeup, with ice cold water, lots of sweet, and lots of lemon…yummmmmmm!

  57. Happy Independence Day, Jane! As a soldier’s wife, I try to spend the day remembering why so many have suffered and died. Freedom is not free, but so worth it!

  58. Happy Fourth of July! We;re under a flash flood warning in Atlanta, so I think tomorrow will involve lots of books and staying home. I’d drink but since I’m trying to lose that last 5 pounds, I think I’ll abstain.

  59. I live in a “old folks” home and we are planning a barbeque tomorrow evening followed by fireworks. We may be old but we’re not dead yet so we have a great time!

  60. I love fresh brewed ice tea.

This weekend we are having a bash honoring my Dad who passed away on 6/6. He was 96 and active and independant until the week he died. He didn’t want any service, just a celebration of his life, by my pool. That is what all my family and friends will be doing this weekend. All 4 generations of us.

  61. Spending the 4th with my husband and going to hear a concert and hopefully see fireworks even though rain is broadcasted for all day tomorrow. Can’t wait to read the Good Wife with me drinking a Pina Colada!

  62. Well, I hardly ever have them because they are fattening, but I love pina coladas with Bacardi rum. We used to have them when we went on vacation, before the kids, LOL!

  63. Spending the 4th walking in a parade with my kids, having a cookout and then heading to the local park for fireworks and other festivities.
I can’t wait to read about Sarah’s story. She interested me the first time I read about her during Meg’s story. The uncertainty of her relationship with Boone and not knowing if she can trust him was really something she struggled with. And I think in the back of her mind, maybe Meg thought about Sarah’s marriage when she cheated with Chad. Maybe that even made her realize she had to fight for her marriage and for Jack. I also loved Kit’s story. Her and Jude were so great for one another and I’m really hoping to get an update on them in the good wife. I can’t wait for the new book! I have ALL of your novels!! (Even the Flirting with Forty movie on DVD). Have a great 4th Jane and thank you for keeping me so entertained. 🙂

  68. My parents are in town for the weekend, so we’ll be spending time with them. The boys are having a sleepover at their hotel tonight. 🙂

  69. I have always loved a Sea Breeze… in a glass mix 1/3 vodka, 1/3 cranberry juice and 1/3 grapefruit juice… serve with ice. I am also very partial to lime margaritas! Canada Day was Monday, July 1 and while I didn’t have any specific plans except for a day to myself in my garden… my son moved this past weekend, there was a snafu with the apartment and he ended up taking another one that wasn’t ready to receive tenants so I spent my holiday Monday painting with my favourite guy!

  70. I have no big plans for the weekend, and I honestly love a glass of sweet tea (not a big drinker, no use mixing up a big batch of something to drink alone… maybe when I go to my parents’ in a few weeks and see some friends.
I can’t wait to read “The Good Wife!” Happy 4th of July!

  71. Enjoy your holiday, Jane!
Can’t wait for the new book 🙂

  84. Happy July 4th! love the drink, I make 2 kinds one like yours and another with cranberry juice. Have fun with your sister and her daughter. Its rainy here so the were just hanging out at the house, my son and his girlfriend are home from school so the went to visit friends, the power just came back on so I can finish baking my cake! Gotta run for the timer is going off! Have a wonderful weekend-hope that I get pick to read the Good Woman first! love ya!

  85. I don’t drink alcohol but my favorite drink I have ever tried is a chocolate cake shot. It was so cool how it tasted just like cake!

  86. For the 4th of July, we went to Six Flags, Great Adventure. I have to work Friday and Saturday, so Sunday, I may get to have my bar b que food.

I cannot wait to read Sarah’s story!! September can’t come quick enough!!

Hope you are enjoying the holiday and weekend!

    Cindy

  92. My favorite hot weather summer drink is way too simple, but way too good. It’s just lemonade and blueberry vodka. And to keep the calories and sweetness down, I use Crystal Light lemonade. Yum!!

  93. I had no 4th of July plans but did see fireworks. My favorite summertime drink is anything cold and fruity. Alcohol optional. : ) I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday!

  94. I will have a quiet holiday weekend–watched some fireworks on the 4th, but no one else is home (except the dogs!) and I am enjoying the peace.

  95. Lake Powell for the week – with lots of family and friends. House boat, jet skis, tubing and most importantly….lots of reading during the day! Bloody Mary’s in the morning and my new drink at night – Mojitos. Was never a fan but now adding raspberry 🙂
