Featured Author: Kate Hewitt

bio_pic3You all know how much I love writing my Harlequin Presents but I love my Harlequin Presents author friends just as much.  I’m so thrilled to have fellow Presents author and good friend, Kate Hewitt as my guest today!  Kate and I have known each other for several years and I adore her.

I read Kate’s first Harlequin Presents novel, The Italian’s Chosen Wife and fell in love with her voice and writing style.  When I met Kate, I became a true fan.  She’s awesome!  Hugely talented and so warm and wonderful to know.  Like me, Kate started out writing romance and has just taken the leap into Women’s Fiction and I couldn’t be happier for her.  I’ve asked her to join us to share more about her new release and ‘Writing from the Heart’!

Here’s Kate Hewitt!

Thanks so much for having me here–I’m so excited to share my first women’s fiction, This Fragile Life, with you, and especially to do it on Jane Porter’s blog.

I first met Jane in 2000, when we were both Golden Heart finalists at the Romance Writers of America. Jane had already sold to Harlequin Presents, and as an aspiring writer it felt like she had crossed to the other side or climbed an impossibly high mountain–I was dying to know how she’d done it! I remember how gracious and friendly she was, and admired her for her wonderful attitude as much as for her publishing success.

When her first Harlequin Presents came out, I devoured it in one sitting. I loved her writing style; it seemed so fresh and different. And it was actually reading a Jane Porter romance that made me decide to try writing one myself after giving it up for several years; lo and behold, my first Presents was published in 2008.

When Jane started writing women’s fiction I gobbled that up too. I loved Flirting with Forty and Odd Mom Out, the first two women’s fiction of hers I read. And once again seeing how she seemed to move effortlessly from romance to women’s fiction made me decide to try it–and so here I am, with my first women’s fiction, This Fragile Life, out now.

This Fragile Life is really a book of my heart. I had the idea for the story many years ago, but felt intimidated by the thought of writing something that seemed so long and complex. The premise of two friends, one struggling with infertility and one unexpectedly pregnant, gripped me because I can identify with both situations. Martha and Alex are very different; Martha is a stressed control-freak and Alex might be too laid-back for her own good, but they realize they need each other in more ways than one. And the idea behind it all, that grief and suffering can lead to strength and joy, is one that I believe in fiercely.

Tell me what book of Jane’s got you hooked on her writing, and I will draw the name of one commenter to win one of my Harlequin Presents romances as well as a $15 Starbucks gift card. I hope you check out This Fragile Life–and let me know what you think if you read it! I love hearing from readers.

Happy Reading,

Kate

This Fragile Life

This Fragile Life: You love your best friend. You trust her with your life. But could you give her the most precious gift of all? Alex’s life is a mess. She’s barely holding down a job, only just affording her apartment, and can’t remember when she was last in a relationship. An unexpected pregnancy is the last thing she needs. Martha’s life is on track. She’s got the high flying career, the gorgeous home and the loving husband. But one big thing is missing. Five rounds of IVF and still no baby. The solution seems simple. Alex knows that Martha can give her child everything that she can’t provide. But Martha’s world may not be as perfect as it seems, and letting go isn’t as easy as Alex expected it to be. Now they face a decision that could shatter their friendship forever.

  2. Jane, thank you so much for always reaching out to your fans, and not only sharing your wonderful stories with us… but also the works of other great Authors.

You give us inspiration, and you gave Kate inspiration to write! I can’t wait to read this! It actually sounds so much like me and my best friend (personality wise – we both have children, thank God). I’m putting it on my GoodReads shelf “to read” right now!!

    😀

  3. I always enjoy her books and this one sounds like a good emotional read. I’ll definitely add it to my list.

  4. This Fragile Life is a wonderful book which sounds emotional, and memorable. Jane’s books are inspirational and unforgettable. Kate, best wishes and much happiness.

  5. Another great new author and book to check out, thanks Jane! My 1st Jane Porter book was she’s gone country I picked up at my local bookstore along with Easy on the eyes and was able to meet Jane! I read everything of hers after that and she keeps us up on new authors.I am looking forward to reading This fragile life

  6. Your book sounds amazing- I am fan of yours anyway!

The first book that caught my eye from Jane was: The Sicilian’s Defiant Mistress. I really loved it and It’s a keeper on my shelf.

  7. Thank you so much for this awesome giveaway Jane, I’m really looking forward to reading Kate’s new book and I must say I LOVE the cover and the blurb.

  8. The first book of Jane’s that I read was “Flirting with Forty”, and I loved her unique style. Since then I have read all of her “women’s fiction” books. Am definitely interested to read “This Fragile Life” as well!

  9. I didn’t keep track of books read before June/09, but since then, I read Jane’s DUTY, DESIRE AND THE DESERT KING. Really liked the flow of the book, as I couldn’t wait to read the next page and the next page and the next page. Liked the characters themselves a lot. Jane made the background details enjoyable as well, like the history of the palace items, which I don’t usually enjoy. I was mesmerized until the very last page.

  10. to borrow & bend a phrase – any friend of Jane’s is an author for me!
I’ve read many of Jane’s Harlequin Presents books – I’m not sure if it was first, but I do remember enjoying “The Spaniard’s Passion”.

  11. Kate, so happy to meet you! Sounds like you have given birth to good read yourself. And, thanks Jane for introducing us to Kate. The first book of Jane’s that I read was Flirting With Forty and I fell in love with Jane’s writing there and then. I also checked out the DVD of that book which was great, but I still love the book itself best!

  12. I got hooked on Jane’s books way back with the UK 2002 version of The Secretary’s Seduction. It has a blue cover.
I have it tucked away with my collection of Jane’s Presents line.

  14. Kate, I have already read some of your Harlequin Presents and loved them, so I am excited to read this book as well! I love both Jane’s Harlequins and her women’s fiction. The first book of Jane’s I read was The Frog Prince….I was hooked after that.
Have a great weekend Jane and Kate!

  15. I can really relate to your story THIS FRAGILE LIFE. When I was pregnant with my fourth child, my neighbor, Sharon, was receiving hormone shots because she couldn’t get pregnant.
She never did have any children or adopt any children which was quite sad as she would have been a fantastic, caring mother. Sharon had a ruptured appendix when she was 13 and it left scar tissue around her fallopian tubes.

The first category book I read and enjoyed of Jane’s was THE LATIN LOVER’S SECRET CHILD. The first novel was THE FROG PRINCE.

Best wishes for continued success with your writing!

  16. It’s great meeting another new to me Author here and I’m putting This Fragile Life on my TRL.
Reading Jane’s Princess Brides series did it for me. 🙂
Thanks for such a generous giveaway opportunity.
