My Friend Susan Stephens

So happy to have my very talented friend, Susan Stephens on my blog today.  We go a long way back, having shared the same editor early on, as well as a love for alpha heroes and emotional stories!

Welcome, Susan!

ss1I’m so thrilled to be here. Thank you for inviting me, Jane!

I’ve just seen my 51st book for Harlequin Presents hit the shelves, and have been answering a lot of questions. What’s the best thing about writing romance, for example? The readers, of course! Meeting people across the world is a bonus I never imagined when I signed my first contract and the Internet has brought us all closer together, which I love.

What else is amazing? Meeting other industry professionals. And there’s no one I respect more than Jane, for all that she has achieved, and even more for the woman she is, sharing her love and her gift as a wordsmith so generously.

And just for being Jane! Unique, tender, and special—as well as a lot of fun!

Here’s a pic of the first time we met at a gorgeously romantic hotel in Chester, England, when I was a complete newbie, and so unbelievably thrilled to meet another author, especially one from the USA. We’re still friends. That’s how special this business is.

When I attended the Romance Writers of America conference in San Diego this year, the first attendee I signed a book for, asked when I was going to write more polo books similar to my Acosta series. I just love her for that. I love my billionaire cowboys, and I love my readers, so I came home and started writing straight away.

ss3A new series is born!

My brand new Blood and Thunder series is a collection of stand-alone, no-holds-barred romance stories, set in the tough, unforgiving world of top-class polo. There’s passion and steamy action, as well as fiery, stand-up heroines to deal with those arrogant men.

Here’s the first novel in the series—available for purchase November 8th.  Up for pre-order now! Isn’t the cover great—the guy’s so hot!

This is my Russian billionaire hero, Alexei Riga.

I’ve had the best fun writing these red-hot stories, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

    1. I’m really lucky to have such a wonderful designer. We’ve worked together for years and I consider myself fortunate to have made a really good friend as well as being able to work with such a talented woman

  2. Hi, Susan! Congratulations on 50+ Books!!! What a great photo of two lovely ladies : ) I loved “In the Sheikh’s Service”–the characters were so engaging, and their teasing, sparky romance was just right! Best wishes for all your releases-thanks for the great giveaway!

    1. Thank you Virginia. I’m so glad you enjoyed my 50th book. it was such a great first meeting with Jane, and i’m so glad I kept that photograph with all my precious writing memorabilia. Memories like that first meeting between Jane and me are so special, I was really glad to be able to share it with you and everyone else here.

  3. What a great interview! Love the covers of your new books. I also love the romance world, have met wonderful authors and made many new friends!!

    1. You echo my own thoughts absolutely, Shari. Writing has brought me so much more than I ever expected. I had no idea that the world of romance would be such a warm and inclusive place. Like you, i’ve made many friends, and consider myself fortunate to have made those friends across the world- and that’s all thanks to the romance community. Long may it grow and thrive!

  4. Hi Susan! Thanks for the fun interview 🙂 As an aspiring author myself, I love reading about how an author got their start and how they were discovered. It gives me hope that someday it will be my turn. How long did you write and submit before you finally got The Call?

Your stories sound wonderful and I can’t wait to get ahold of them! Thank you for all you do because I know it’s exhausting.

  5. Hi Danielle! Good luck to you in all your writing endeavours – never never give up! It took me two years and several manuscripts – in fact, I had given up when my wonderful friend Penny Jordan persuaded me to have one last try – what have you got to lose, she asked. She was right. I love writing so it was no hardship to come up with another story, and this time i was lucky. It is tiring, but its such a wonderful world to be part of that you will never feel tired for long. My very best wishes to you for your success, and may it not be long in coming.

  6. I can see with a couple of these replies I pressed ‘Post Comment’ too soon! That’s me and my enthusiasm, so i hope you will all forgive me. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. All Best everyone! Susan xx

  7. Hi! Would love to win this package, as Susan’s books are delightful for romance readers, including myself. I have commented online about several of Susan’s books, using all of the following phrases: felt the “blood coursing” through the pages of the book wonderfully … loved the pace … loved the passion … loved how they completed each other … beautiful love story … I could feel their love … well written … loved it, loved it, loved it!

  8. Thank you so much for sharing… I have enjoyed books by Susan Stephens before… sounds like a series I would enjoy.
