The Odd Mom Out Book Tour

I’m going to be on the road again starting October 3rd and traveling until Thanksgiving Weekend speaking, reading and doing Odd Mom Out booksignings. Probably the hardest week of travel though will be the very first week of the tour, the California leg where I fly into Los Angeles October 3rd and a week later end up in San Francisco after hitting six bookstores, one airforce base, and one party in between. The great part about this tour (besides meeting my readers and hooking up with friends) is that my Mr. Surferman is coming over from Hawaii to spend the week on the road in California with me. That’s right. He’s going to see Jane Porter in full author glory…Jane … Continue reading The Odd Mom Out Book Tour

Tuesday Update

Love that wonderful diary entry title. Fascinating subject header, isn’t it? Okay, creativity isn’t my high point right now. In fact, creativity seems to be a low point, along with my low energy. I thank my latest cold bug for that, as well as the very disorienting doses of Sudafed. What is in Sudafed, Actifed, Sinus Cold and Allergy, Tylenol Cold anyway? (And no, I’m not taking them all at one point, or even more than one tablet in 12 hours, but I’ve tried everything in my desperate search to find a decongestant that doesn’t make me dizzy and sleepy.) However, colds and foggy head aside, I’m feeling good right now. My new website bulletin board is up and running … Continue reading Tuesday Update

A Few of My Favorite Things

I’ve been thinking about Valentine Day gifts and it’s not because I want to be Ms. Consumer, but between email ads from the companies I like, spam that I don’t like, and the internet with its ‘gifts gifts gifts’ thing going on, gifts are on my mind. I never had a real boyfriend in high school or college. I had some dates here and there but never anyone serious enough to exchange cards or gifts with. So when I finally got married in my twenties, Valentine’s Day was pretty damn significant. I was going to make up for all those lost Valentine Days before. It’s taken awhile to understand what constitutes a great gift though. I’ve never gotten a vacuum … Continue reading A Few of My Favorite Things

Men At Work

My boyfriend Ty was here from Hawaii this past weekend to catch my boys football and soccer games and help me take care of some things around the house. I didn’t exactly give Ty a written To-Do List but there were two days of things to do. Being a single mom things just break, and fall apart, and pile up and before I know it, I need some serious help. Ty gamely built my workout bench, hauled an electronic piano keyboard up the stairs, swapped out the brake light on my car, buffed the scratches and paint marks off my car, changed two dozen light bulbs (including the spider infested ones and he hates spiders), and that was just the … Continue reading Men At Work

Old Blogger-u

Memoriessssss light the corner of my mind. Misty water colored memmmmmmmories, like the way we werrrrrre…. I always have a bumpy transition coming home from Hawaii and this is no exception. If anything, having the kids return to school today has only made the transition harder. I don’t want them to go back to school and I don’t want another school year to start. I like summer and Hawaii and vacation and freedom and damn, but I’m missing Hawaii big time, so much so that I spent way too long putting together a blog about my Hawaii life over at The 5 Spot blog– http://welcometothe5spot.blogspot.com/ It’s got photos and info and the brilliant title, Living with Aloha, and you know, … Continue reading Old Blogger-u

Making It

I hate goodbyes. Hate leaving those I love. To go to Hawaii, I say goodbye to my kids. To go back to Bellevue, I say goodbye to Surfer Ty. To go on book tours and business trips, I say goodbye to everyone. At writer conferences, I say goodbye to my friends. Enough with the goodbyes. Enough with leaving and departing and closing doors and walking away. I just want to get everybody I love in one place and lock the doors and make ’em stay. And so here I sit at the airport in an internet cafe writing a JaneBlog to keep from falling apart. I’ll see Ty in nineteen days I tell myself. He’s going to come to the … Continue reading Making It

Blue Hawaii

I’ve been in Hawaii nearly a week and having a really good time. I love having my own car here, helps immensely with the sense of needing to belong, and yet of feeling independent. Having my own wheels means I don’t have to go down to the beach when everyone goes for the lessons, and yet I don’t have to stay here all day and wait for Ty and others to return. I can come and go as I please, grocery shop when I want, run out for a latte at 5:30 in the morning, or be encouraged to go buy t.p. at ten o’clock because–well, let’s face it–surf guys use it but don’t like to buy it. And then … Continue reading Blue Hawaii

Zoom Lens

I hear your pain. Some of you are frustrated by the link I provided over to the 5Spot blog. I’m sorry if I confused you. I know I confuse me. In fact, I’m so confused I used to wear a t-shirt in college that read, ‘I Never Get Lost Because Everyone Tells Me Where To Go.’ But that was college (and the 80’s), this is now, and yes, there is probably a better way to link to 5Spot without frustrating so many readers. But I haven’t learned yet, so a second round of apologies. I posted a photo of my surfer guy last night over at the 5Spot Blogger (as Megan Crane called it, a ‘5 Spot exclusive’), and yet … Continue reading Zoom Lens

Over At Blogger…

I’m keeping some of my 5 Spot authors company with the new The5Spot blog. And what the heck is 5 Spot? It’s an imprint. Um, an emblem on the spine of my Flirting with Book. A…thing. But I just added a post there, my second blog with them ever. I like that place because I get to add photos. I wish I could add photos here but hey, that’s an issue for my web team, not you all. So if you want to see some photos, or see what kind of things I say in my alter ego state, drop by here and see me, and read my newest blog and know that sometime over the weekend I will be … Continue reading Over At Blogger…

Bye Bye Miss American Pie

I’m heading to Los Angeles tomorrow with kids where we’ll meet Surfer Ty who is also flying in from Hawaii. In the evening we’ll board a Qantas flight to Australia, landing in Sydney on Thursday before hopping to Cairns on Saturday for 5 nights. All told, we’ll be gone two weeks with four of those days spent at the Romance Writers of Australia’s annual conference, taking place this year on the Gold Coast. It’s been another long day at the computer, today especially rought since the damn thing has decided to freeze up every ten minutes or so. I don’t know why it does this. I just want it to work so I can wrap up my last minute emails … Continue reading Bye Bye Miss American Pie
