Cowboy Country

I’m slightly mad at the moment, the kind of mad that requires straight jackets, as I juggle mom stuff, the upcoming book tour, and meeting my Sunday deadline for the Harlequin Presents I’m writing.

There honestly aren’t enough hours in the day.  Compounding the craziness is the fact that a week from tomorrow I leave for Auckland where I’m speaking at the New Zealand Romance Writers annual conference and then heading straight to San Francisco for the launch of She’s Gone Country.  I’ll be in California for four book events, Nevada for one and then back to Seattle for my Washington events.

But first I have to finish my book for Harlequin–and as I still have 3 to 4 chapters to go.   However, before I dash, let met announce a fun blog contest first.   In honor of great looking guys in fitted Wranglers and cowboy boots, I’m giving away 5 copies of my Cooper’s Corner cowboy story, The Secret, along with a bunch of fun reader goodies. Want to win this hard to find Jane Porter novel? Then enter to win by sharing what books are in your TBR pile, or if you don’t have a TBR pile, what are you reading now? The Cowboy Country contest runs through Thursday night and I’ll announce the 5 winners Friday morning. Good luck!!

  1. Hi Jane, I would love to win one of your books. My
TBR pile is pretty high, but I have a couple of things going at once right now.

I am reading and discussing, The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs…great read. I am in the middle of Carly Phillips’ Kiss Me if You Can and a third of the way through Kristan Higgins’ All I Ever Wanted. Other books on my list are your Easy on the Eyes…thank you for signing that one for me, and Demonfire by Kate Douglas. There’s more, but I don’t want to overwhelm you…LOL!!!

You will make that deadline, because you are Jane Porter. It looks like you will be gone for a while. Safe travels, and I have my fingers crossed. Are you calmer now? LOLOLOLOL!!! Have a great rest of the day, Jane.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  2. In my tbr pile are the Host by Stephenie Meyer, Servant The Awakening by LL Foster and Better Than Bulletproof by Kay Thomas.
    Enjoy all your travelling!

  3. Hi Jane,

Hope you’re able to get a few minutes peace in with all the chaos of deadlines, family, and book events!

I just finished reading Little Face by Sophie Hannah. It was very engaging and tough to predict what would happen next. In my TBR pile are so many books, but next up is probably The Stepmother by Carrie Adams.

I only have a few days of summer left before I start orientation for my new job so I’ve got to get as much reading in as I can!

Good luck with finishing up the writing process and getting ready for the upcoming travels!

    ~Emily

  4. Hey, Jane. Sounds like your life is crazy!! Ride the wave. It will level out soon.
I’m reading Money, Honey by Susan Sey. It is her debut. I’m only about 100 pgs into it.
I just finished Lisa Scottoline’s Think Twice. It was great!!
Good luck on finishing your book. I look forward to reading it!!

  5. Amazingly, I’m on vacation this week in the mountains, TBR pile, er, piled high. Already, I’ve blown through Victoria Dahl’s A LITTLE BIT WILDE and Loretta Chase’s LAST NIGHT’S SCANDAL – two fantastic novels. I spent today on the deck writing and chatting on FB and Twitter and tonight, I’ll read some more of Anne Stuart’s RUTHLESS – followed by Joanna Bourne’s FORBIDDEN ROSE. Tessa Dare is after that. I’m on a historical roll here. I wasn’t kidding about the pile.

  6. I am reading Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and then I will be reading looking for a Love story by Louise Shaffer then I will be ready for my pre-ordered copy of She’s Gone Country to arrive. I can’t wait!! Safe travels Jane!

  7. You are the extraordinary one and will get it done because of you and your total dedication to everything you’re involved with. Book will be spectacular, trips will be a blast as the others and the Mom will always be just that….so relax, keep the suitcase loaded up and sleep when you can. I’d like to read ‘She’s Gone Country’ and any other JP specials. Just finished ‘Always Running’ by Luis Rodriguez. A great read to me being a long ago California girl that just wanted to understand that kind of life. Then in 1980, I went country to raise my kids in the quiet, quaint small community life in the Shenadoah Valley. Thanks for the updates and sharing with us, I know you mean alot to all of us fans and you will get through it all because you are amazing. Can’t wait to see the next batch of pictures from wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Have fun, it’ll all come together and you will be the best! Take care….Ruth

  8. My TBR pile has hundreds of books, so I’ll spare you (this time, LOL)!

Suffice to say, my “J” section (yes, I’m anal about alphabetical order by authors’ first names) starts with Jackie Kessler’s A RED HOT VALENTINE’S DAY, Jane Porter’s DUTY, DESIRE AND THE DESERT KING (funny that!), and Janice Lynn’s THE HEART SURGEON’S SECRET SON.

Thanks for the visual of “great looking guys in fitted Wranglers and cowboy boots” and best of luck meeting your deadline. You can and you WILL do it, Jane! Keep the faith!

  9. Talk about busy, your life boggles the mind! I just finished Land of Marvels by Barry Unsworth (not that good) and I am going to read a thriller Flower Net by Lisa See and Rocket Men by Craig Nelson, a non-fiction about the first men on the moon next. I saw the review in The Seattle TImes of She’s Gone Country and it was good and I need to add your book to the pile soon.

  10. Hi Jane! On my TBR pile is the last 2 books in Susan Wiggs’ series of The Lakeshore Chronicles, along with Beachcombers by Nancy Thayer and a few by Sheryl Woods. I’m saving a place for “She’s Gone Country”!! 🙂

  11. Well currently I’m reading a Blaze book Let It Ride by Jillian Burns. Just to name a couple of my TBR books Anywhere She Runs by Debra Webb, Lord Of Devil Isle by Connie Mason and The Missing by Shiloh Walker. Good luck with your deadline and have a fun and safe trip to New Zealand.

Some of the books I look forward to reading are; So Happy Together by Maryann McFadden, Beach Trip by Cathy Holton, The Blue Bistro by Elin Hilderbrand, The Ideal Wife by Mary Balogh…the list goes on. However, once SGC is released, all other books will have to wait! By the way, I received my first e-mail from Amazon earlier in the week to pre-order SGC…I was so excited! Be safe in your travels.

  14. Right now I’m reading the Hunger Games/Catching Fire series by Suzanne Collins with my teenager as a required part of the summer reading. I had already read it, and enjoyed rereading it. Book 3, Mockingjay comes out end of August, and we’re pretty thrilled about it.

  15. Yucky chaos:( We just sold our house….on the last day it was on the market, and I have 30 days to find a new house….yikes! School stared this week, which helps, but my little girl started kindergarten, which hurts:(

My to be read pile is a little high, becuase it’s been a crazy summer. Right now I am reading The Perfect Happiness by Santa Montefiore…very good. Next up will be one of these:

Second Time Around by Beth Kendrick
The Lies We told by Diane Chamberlin
This One Is Mine by Maria Semple

Once the book is done…you have fun stuff to look forward to, try to think of that:)! Can’t wait for She’s Gone Country!

We leave for Michigan next week so I am hoping to have more time to read then. I also am hpoing to find She’s Gone Country up there too! I didn’t want to pre order it knowing we would be out of state when it was released. I know I cannot wait until we get home to have it!
