Traveling & Touring Jane

I’m writing a lot this week, working on my new book, and it’s exciting and challenging, and compelling and frustrating, but isn’t that how a new book always is?

But even with all the writing, the She’s Gone Country book tour rolls on. This Friday I’m at the Borders at Sea-Tac airport at 9 am, and then Thursday Sept 9th is my big Bellevue launch party with the Barnes & Noble discussion and signing at 7 and the party over at Ooba’s at 8 pm. Lisa Johnson, owner of Ooba’s, stopped by my house this morning to discuss the drinks and menu (their signature margaritas plus yummy Tex-Mex food). If you’ve attended the Bellevue party before you know it’s always a lot of fun and I’ve got great reader giveaways so come!

For those who want a more literary feel on the other side of the bridge, we’ve got an event for you, too at Third Place Books Saturday, September 11th. Join me for a reading and a great discussion. I’d love to answer all your questions from why Texas to what’s happening in Hollywood with my books now.

Sunday, September 12th is a book event at Borders in Visalia, California. Visalia is my hometown. I was born at Kaweah Delta Hospital and graduated from Redwood High. I’m hoping to have a great event there, too, and want you to grab a couple friends to come with you.

And then… (breathless pant here….) we’ve got that big ole’ Texas book tour coming up kicking off October 10th with a tea with the DFW Tea group, and then a fun girls night out party at Love and War in Texas. I’ve got 8 days of events in Texas and I want to see everyone that I can. So book clubs, grab your girls and come see me, or clubs and groups, email me and see if I can join you for something. I haven’t done a big Texas tour in 5 years so let’s make this one HUGE and awesome!

Now it’s back to the story and love and hugs and gratitude to all of you!

PS ย Want to buy a new book to read? Craving something sweet to go with that new novel? ย Tell me what you’re doing this weekend and you’re entered to win a $15 B&N gift card and a $10 Starbucks gift card plus lots of JP goodies. Contest runs through Saturday night and I’ll announce the winner Sunday! Good luck and happy early Labor Day weekend!

  1. The weather’s been absolutely terrific, so our friends and family are all gathering for a nice barbeque! Hot weather is rare for those of us who live up in the northeast, especially in the fall, so we’re gonna have to make it last! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Steph

  2. We have planning a garage sale for Friday and Saturday, and then a day trip to Lake Michigan on Sunday. The weather is not looking completely cooperative – kind of chilly for swimming perhaps, but that’s OK, we’ll still have a blast. Monday we’re planning a final day of summer relaxation, as the kids go back to school on Tuesday! I can’t wait for the weekend to get started.

  3. Jane, just reading your calendar is making me tired.
Down south we are feeling a little change in the air–dare say could it be Fall. I am planning on pressure washing and doing a little painting this weekend , I hope.
I might grill out. I haven’t thought that far in the future. I
I am always craving some dark chocolate while I am reading. I eat it slowly so it last longer.

  4. This weekend some girlfriends and I are going to a music festival in Chinatown and thats the highlight of the weekend and I’m really looking forward to that! Have a great rest of the week and weekend Jane. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. This weekend I’m battening down the hatches as Hurricane Earl makes his presence felt in Jersey. Then, once we all sing “Good-bye Earl!” (sorry, couldn’t resist, ‘specially w/your upcoming Texas trip), and Hopefully he’ll take this God-awful heat wave with him, I’ll be working on finishing my MS when not pouring through my new Crusie and Stuart novels. Looking forward to cooler skies and autumnal days ahead.

Safe journeying! Can’t wait to hear how great all those events turn out to be!

  6. You have a lot going on, as always! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am happy to hear you are working on another book…I can’t wait! This weekend I plan on sleeping in, since it’s my last chance. My daughter is starting 1st grade next week and that means early mornings for me. We have a couple kids birthday parties to attend this weekend and on labor Day, I get the privelage to work a 12 hr. shift. Can you hear the excitement in my voice?! ๐Ÿ™‚ I would LOVE to win this contest, coffee and books, what is better than that?! I know just what I’d buy with the B&N gift card – She’s Gone Country. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!!! Have a good weekend, Jane!

  7. We are headed to White Pass for a bit of sunshine (hopefully) since the rain has moved in to Western Washington again. Just finished SGC… loved it, couldn’t put it down, and always hate it when your books are over. We are planning on coming on the 9th to B’vue B&N!

  8. This weekend we are helping our son and DIL paint the inside of a room in their house to get ready for their baby coming in November. They painted this room before they moved into the house in 2007, but now don’t like the color.

I am reading Easy on the Eyes right now, because I want to read Tiana’s story before reading Shey’s story and I really like it, I really, really like it and I don’t generally like anything to do with “Hollywood” characters. Thanks Jane, you have opened my eyes. Can’t wait to finish Tiana’s story and start on Shey’s. I am so glad you are a writer!

  9. Taking it really easy…just survived a family reunion ๐Ÿ™‚
We will probably grill and watch some movies with the kiddos. I would love the indulgence of buying a new book! Have an awesome Labor Day everyone…

  10. We have nothing planned this Labor Day and that sounds just perfect! Probably relaxing time with the kiddos- movies & popcorn! I finished the book last weekend- it was fabulous! Thank you! I was sad when I finished it! I am planning on coming to Bellevue when you are in town! Try & relax until then!!

  11. Ooooh…great giveaway! I am working on Saturday and hopefully talking to a breeder about purchasing the cutest puppy ever! Jane…please come to the East Coast!!

  12. OMGosh! I knew you were coming to Visalia Sept 12 but now I can go to Borders and see you again!
    YAY!!

We would be going to our coast house this 3 day weekend but instead, we will be at Bulldog Stadium Saturday night cheering on our Fresno State Bulldogs as they take on Cincinnati for the football season opener!

Sounds like you are going to have a great month coming up and how fun- I wish I lived in Bellevue again, so I could come to Ooba’s party! I know we sure enjoyed the Chevy’s Fresno party!

Looking forward to seeing you again Jane!
Love love love it when a hometown girl makes good! So happy for all your success….Oh and PS. ……There was the article in today’s Visalia Times Delta about the Porter Field House and the dedication ceremony!

Have a great holiday weekend with the boys!

  13. I have nothing planned for this weekend except relaxing and getting into some of my books I have been meaning to start for months now. I don’t get to relax often, so I’m going to take full advantage and be lazy! Sounds like a good plan to me! Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!

  14. For Labor Day Weekend I am going to Yellowstone for a camping trip with my family – parents, sisters, brothers in law, nieces and nephews. Should be a fun adventure. BTW I sailed through She’s Gone Country. I loved it!!

  15. Hi Jane! We are doing what we do most weekends this time of year…tournament for my son’s travel baseball team! This one’s local (Hanford), so we don’t have to go far! I’m sure I’ll get to watch plenty of college football this weekend, too, starting tomorrow night with my USC Trojans! What time will your event at Border’s be in Visalia on the 12th? We’ll be coming home from L.A., but I hope to come see you again! Nice article about the COS gym in the paper today!

  16. This weekend will be lovely and I am looking forward to spending time with my entire family. Lunch outside on the patio on Sun. and then a long, leisurely walk on Mon.

  17. Hi Jane! I’m busy planning hubby’s 40th birthday party this weekend, putting the finishing touches on the invites and details, menu, and ordering his cake. Should be a big bunch of fun! Wish you could be here ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. We are taking it easy this weekend because school starts for my daughter on Tuesday. I think there are still a few things we need to pick up for school, too. There should be some time for reading, I hope. Glad to hear She’s Gone Country is doing well and you’re keeping busy. My copy should be coming soon. Have a great weekend, Jane.

  19. Hi Jane, glad you got the chance to breathe before continuing the book tour. It’s good to hear that you are working on something new. I wish that I lived closer so I could party with you. Have a blast at all venues.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  20. Well, I plan on finding a quiet spot and finishing She’s Gone Country,(I’m Loving It!) since I did not get to finish it on my recent beach vacation! Other than that, we plan a simple family weekend – maybe a visit to Powell’s Books here in Portland – it’s always a great place to spend an afternoon.

  21. It will be a weekend of football over this way. Hope to get in a good bike ride with the children and lastly just relax a bit and read.

Be safe out there with all of your travel.

  22. I plan to go to Mt. Baker for hiking Saturday and stay overnight in Burlington, then a visit in Anacortes with my sister and her son and his family on Sunday. Hope the weather stays nice, if not, we will stay home Saturday, no hike and go to a movie instead. Labor Day is a rest day, relaxing with a good book.

  23. We are going to take a weekend trip to the beach. Tomorrow we are taking my grandkids to the circus! Should be fun, I haven’t been since I was a teenager!

  24. Hi Jane, I am on vacation until tomorrow at the Jersey Shore. Hurricane Earl is coming but we will be homebound then. Saturday is Dad’s 60th bday and Monday is my nephew’s and then school starts Tuesday!! I have had a good summer but I am glad for the kids to get back to their routines. It’s exhausting to have them home and constantly entertained.lol Hope you are well and Happy Labor Day to you!!
    Cindy

My plans are up in the air,but I am going to start reading your book,She’s Gone Country, I want go to the beach and be alone of course my daughter willbe with me, which we have fun together. My life is a mess and I just want some peace, its been miserable the last couple weeks but I decided that things will get better. I got my first A on my term paper and I’m so excited, for I’ve been out of school for 30yrs or more but I feel great and my confidence is whole lot better then its been in awhile. have a wonderful weekend yourself, writing but enjoy your boys, too!

  26. Well, we are celebrating my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary this long weekend (it’s actually my birthday the same day as their wedding anniversary, but this is such an awesome milestone, I’m happy to take a back seat).

I’m also headed to the barn with one of my daughters, cooking up a storm for the party on Monday and hopefully getting some time in my garden.

I absolutely loved She’s Gone Country… bought it and read it same day last week. My book this weekend is Dick Francis’ Enqiry.

Have a wonderful Labour Day Weekend!

  27. Whoo-whee! You make me breathless with your schedule! I know it’s hard being a juggler, but that’s what you work for, and I really admire you! “She’s Gone Country” is going great guns! Lots of rave reviews and happy readers! I hope to enjoy a very nice Labor Day weekend. The weather has changed, the humidity is almost a memory, and I am feeling “Fallish”. I love this time of year! September through December are my favorite months. I think I’ll do some cooking, things I haven’t made for a while. I’ll definitely do some baking. Maybe an applesauce cake. I live just 10 minutes away from a state park, and this is a great time of the year to go for a drive. Our park has a man-made beach, a lake, waterfalls and beautiful mountain scenery. Lovely : )

  28. Wow, busy busy busy! I wish one of your local dates worked with our football schedule.

Saturday is my 10 year old’s first football game – hope they do well. We have a free Sunday (YEA!) and football practice again on Monday evening. Fun thing though – the junior players will all be matched up Monday with high school players as ‘Big Brothers’.

We were hoping to head out of town for a couple of days, instead we are just hoping for nice weather at home.

I hope you have a great weekend and have a chance to catch your breath!

  29. College football starts this Saturday, and we will be tailgating for our game. Then Sunday we are going to a huge book festival.

I hope that everyone here has a fun and safe Labor Day weekend!

  30. My family works this weekend. I guess I’ll be working on the long-dreaded mending pile, finding my office desk, pulling weeds that should have been pulled last May, and watching Jerry Lewis’s telethon.

That’s nothing like YOUR weekend, Jane. Way to go! Can you bottle some of your energy for me?

  31. Sounds like you are covered up. I am looking forward to a three day weekend. We are having a reception for my in-laws 50th anniversary. It is suppose to be a beautiful weekend here.
    Enjoy your weekend.

  32. You’re weekend sounds exciting! I’m still waiting for your latest to arrive in Hawaii (sigh, I think its swimming over). But this weekend, I’m going to be chilling out and reading! The weather is nice and warm, so I’m hoping for a motorcycle ride too! The best thing about Labor Day? No laboring!

  33. this weekend we are just chill’n! monday over to my mum’s for the annual family fantasy football draft. [maybe a nice nap for me while everyone else is doing this]

  34. This weekend the heat wave is going to brake so I’m going to bake and plant mums. It’s going to be a great weekend.

    Debra

  35. Can not wait for your Texas Tour!

This weekend will be pretty low keep as I am on call (ob/gyn nurse) and I have to be available for all calls.

Have a safe and fun weekend everyone…

  36. we’re planning to buy a new sofa for our living room. With Celebration of Hari Raya Puasa on next friday, this weekend will be the last chance for us to hunt a cozy sofa ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. I’ll be at the Decatur Book Festival…hanging with friends and having way too many cocktails! On Monday, I’ll be recuperating!

  38. Friday its just me and my boy. We are shopping for school clothes then going out to lunch.
On Sunday we are celebrating his eighth birthday with family and friends.
Its going to be a great weekend!

  39. We were originally going to do
the Texas BBQ/grilling thing, but we have had to do a full 360 on those plans. My sister will be having open heart surgery on Sept. 3 (tomorrow) and we will be spending time at the hospital with her. It came as a total & complete surprise for all of us, but
most especially her! We’re going to be keeping her front
    and foremost on the family
    prayer list! God bless!

    Loved this book, Jane!

  45. Hi Jane,
Sounds like you have your hands full, but how exciting to promote your work!
This week-end should have been a nice one for myself and my husband as it is our 16th anniversary. Unfortunately he has a really bad cold and feels miserable, so we have to postpone the celebrations. Made him some homemade chicken soup, hardly the menu for an anniversary.
Have fun and happy Labour day week-end.

  46. Always the busy JP (energizer bunny for sure). We’re heading over to our favorite VA Beach for a week this Sunday and looking forward to lots of walking, sun and fun, reading and as little as I can get away with. You never cease to amaze me with your hectic life and it’ll be great hearing about your newest writing…take care, Ruth

  47. Hi Jane ~ so glad you’re having a great time on your tour! In between finishing getting my boys ready for school on Tuesday & hosting a family bbq on Sunday, I’m going to sneak in some time for myself to read “The Greek’s Royal Mistress”! I just picked it up from my library today…I only placed the hold on it a few days ago & was thrilled to learn they received it already! Also, my girlfriend just read Shey’s story & fell in love w/it!!! It’s her first story of yours & now she can’t wait to read more. Enjoy your Labor Day ~ Stephanie

  48. Hi Jane,
My daughter and husband went to Cedar Point (amusement park) today (Sat.). I get the day to myself and need to paint but don’t want to. I think I might go shopping instead. By the way-loved, loved She’s Gone Country. I read it in a day with my heart beating practically the whole time…I new it would be my favorite!! Enjoy your weekend.

  49. Hi, Jane – you certainly have lots of exciting things going on in your life these days. On my agenda for the weekend is 1) Furniture Delivery this afternoon 2) Reading more of The Memory Keepers Daughter 3) Heading to the bookstore to pick up my copy of She’s Gone Country so I can see if I agree with the choices of Bradley Cooper to play the lead male role in the movie. 4) Cleaning for my three house guests next weekend for the annual Univest Grand Prix bike race. 5) Hosting our End of Summer Pa-a-a-r-tay on Monday – Caribbean Cosmos will be on the menu ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope all have a safe and happy Labor Day holiday weekend.

Sunday will be brunch and the bookstore — though still have a few errands to get through today yet

and Monday and Tuesday I will be in relax mode with books, books, and more books!

    I can’t wait ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

  51. It’s cold and rainy here in Mi this weekend. It’s Saturday noon and it’s rainy and 57 degrees. We’re staying home this weekend. My hubby and i will do some reading and chores around the house and watch some movies. Nice and relaxing i hope.

Seems like you’ve got a busy schedule Jane. Safe travels to you!

    Lisa B

  52. We are having a party for my son who just graduated from the Police Academy on Friday. Saturday we will have our two granddaughters so their parents can go to an end of the summer bike ralley. Sunday and Monday we get to rest up. That’s my weekend! Hope eveyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!

  53. Hi Jane!

Wow your schedule is very crazy. Hats off to you as you manage to do it all and get more writing done in between as well as be a mommy.

It’s the last weekend before school starts here so we have been to open houses and the kids are getting all hyped to see their friends daily and get back into a routine. I am too!

We also have an annual block party on Labor Day and it’s such a fun time to reconnect with the neighbors and meet the new ones.

    Have a great weekend!

  54. Hey Jane!

My big plans for this weekend include relaxing, hit’n the beach (which I think is today’s event), maybe a cookout, and finally working on my car again!

A great motivator is your car being towed from your residence because the parking pass you pay for is attached to the rear view mirror that fell off of the windshield onto the floor board, and then having to have it towed right back because it doesn’t run. Not a great week, but the weekend is shaping up to replace that :0)

Have a great Labor Day weekend All ~

  55. I will attend a huge Vietnamese market tomorrow, organised by a network of Vietnamese young adult volunteers, looking forward to fun language workshops, and to try great food like pho and banh mi for the first time in my life!

  56. Hi Jane,

Sorry I missed your book signing in Palo Alto. Brad enjoyed seeing you. I read She’s Gone Country and really enjoyed it. I loved reading about raising 3 boys – the conversations were so real! We are headed to the beach tomorrow. Let us know when you are back in the area.

  57. Hi Jane,
Hope you are enjoying the long weekend. I worked last night and slept most of the day today. However, we have plans to go to the Zoo tomorrow and our community pool for one last time on Monday if it warms up enough. It was only 65 here today…. It was nice to have the A/C off and the windows open. We are hoping for the 80’s Monday.

  58. Big plans to head to the race track this weekend. Speed, food and friends. The weather has went from hot and beautiful to gloomy and chance of rain, so hopefully we don’t get rained out. Oh well, a vacation is a vacation, so we’ll make the best of it no matter what happens! Wishing you a great Labor Day weekend, Jane!

  59. It was really nice meeting you in Sacramento. I think you inspired my daughter to read ๐Ÿ™‚

For this weekend, we plan to tie dye some t-shirts tomorrow, and attempt to make some lip balm… and maybe make some soy candles. We will see…

Hope you have a great weekend!

  60. Remember the Coke commercial several years ago where the office women took their coffee break when the men across the street took their break…well, the roofers were across the street yesterday, and boy was it hot…the weather, too! “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”…one of my favorite bible verses;) On another note…
several of us neighbors met at the recreational property of one of the neighbors and had an afternoon of food, fun, and laughter. Hubby and I went kayaking for the first time in years and only the second time at all for me. Must do it again soon. Today, we checked in on our son’s home while he is out of town and I saw the 425 magazine for Sept/Oct with your name on the cover and inside a delightful series of photos of you and all your handsome boys!
Sunday it is off to the Blackberry Festival. Must begin and end my days reading. The first sentence of “She’s Gone County” really pulled me in. It is as memorable as “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times”…really! Congrats again on writing such a page turner and adding joy to your readers’ lives. All the best…

  61. #48 Gail Ashford, you are the winner of the blog contest!! Congrats! ๐Ÿ™‚

Send me your mail address in a private email and I’ll put the gift cards and goodies in the next mail.

Everyone, have a wonderful wonderful Labor Day weekend!

  62. This weekend we have a Birthday BBQ planned for my Mom, who turns 69! woooohoooo!!
My husband and son are going to see the Padres & Giants play baseball, so I will get my Mom all to myself!
Should be a great weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

  63. I’m am reading books and watching lots of college football games on TV. I love both…books and college football. I’ll also be meeting with friends from my high school to remember the good times we had there.

  64. Jane, are u the same Jane Porter I used to date some time ago ?
When you lived in Palo Alto CA and I lived in Mtn. View CA. THAT jane Porter lost her Brother while we we dating. I have tried for years to contact you if this Jane Porter could really be you. My name is Allen S
