Halloween Fun & Games

Mac had so much fun trick or treating with his big brothers! It only took a couple houses before he got the hang of it. You walk, knock, wait and then take candy. The best houses were the houses with dogs. Then you walk, knock, wait and pet the doggie. There was some debate though over Mac’s costume. Was he a cow? (That’s what I thought.) Or a Panda? (That’s what Jake and son Ty said). Either way, he was so cute and so happy. Such a great night!

But now it’s November 2nd and there are a lot of events coming up for me! Several are in the Seattle area (3 private auction party fundraisers this weekend plus my Third Place Book Signing Monday night) and then Thursday morning next week I fly out to Atlanta/Lexington/Newark ย for the first of three reader dinners, the Kentucky Book Fair, and a book club gathering in Georgia. If you haven’t gotten an invite yet for my East Coast jaunt, let me know and I’ll send you full details as my reader dinners are for you and meant to be relaxing and fun.

On the writing front I’ve just shot a proposal for what could be my next three books off to my agent and after reading the 80 pages, synopsis, trilogy outline, she’ll forward to my editor. Fingers crossed my editor will like and I’ll soon be under contract again, with a new publishing date set for my next novel’s release.

In the meantime while I wait for my agent’s feedback, I think I should distract myself with a little Jane Blog contest. Need something fun to read? Want some good coffee drink and snack to go with that book? Tell me what you’re reading now or just finished reading (I’m reading Jane Green’s Dune Road) and you’re entered. There will be 2 winners and each will receive a stack of books, your choice of one of my books, a Starbucks drink card, a box of tea, some sweets,ย and lots of JP reader goodies. Contest runs through Thursday night and I’ll announce the two winners Friday morning so share and you could win!

  13. I’m so excited Jane. A trilogy! My fingers and toes are crossed for you and for your fellow readers. I think Mac looks adorable….is he a cow? Is he a panda? He’s just plain cute and man on a mission to get that candy! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am currently reading Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner. My reading time is limited however as I’m participating for the first time in NANOWRIMO. With a full time job, it will be a challenge. I decided to take a well deserved break by checking out your blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Hi Jane! Mac is such a cutie pie! You must be one proud mama. Right now I am reading “The Confession” by John Grisham. It’s amazing so far!! I am hoping everything works out for you because I sure would love to see a trilogy! How exciting. You work so hard and are one amazing author!Have fun on your tour!

  15. I just started Tessa Dare’s book One Dance With a Duke and I am also reading Tim Cahill’s book Lost In My Own Backyard about Yellowstone National Park. Both authors are new to me and I am enjoying their books.

Sending you good thoughts and prayers that your book proposal will be a hit with the editor and the contract will come through. Tell them that you have a reading public anxiously awaiting your next book! True, so true!!!

PS That Mac is so cute in his costume. Glad you had a good Halloween!

  16. Mac is way too cute. I can understand petting the doggies were more fun then the candy. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read anything since I’ve been so busy lately. My last book was She’s Gone Country. I hope all goes well with the new books and enjoy your next jaunt.

  17. Love Mac’s picture! I’m going with the boys…looks very panda-esque to me. Adorable without a doubt.

This week I’m reading “With Friends Like These” by Sally Koslow. It’s very good. Next will likely be “Good in Bed” (can’t believe I’ve never read that). MY TBR list is never-ending and I’m terribly grateful for our local library.

No need to enter me, I just wanted to chime in…still salivating over my Texas goodies!

    Big Hugs from Tustin,
    Shannon

  18. Very cute picture ๐Ÿ™‚

I am reading Driftwood Summer by Patti Callahan Henry. Next I am going to read The Fixer Upper by Mary Andrews (I think). I am waiting for it to come in the mail.

    1. Sorry for the hijack!

I just finished The Fixer Upper and LOVED it! Great introduction to the characters and although it was an abrupt ending, there were no big unanswered questions. Very satisfying!

  19. Hi Jane! Mac looks so cute in his costume. Thanks for sharing the pic. I’m reading an ARC of The Distant Hours by Kate Morton.

  20. Ooohh a trilogy… sounds like fun! I just read Barbara Delinsky’s Not My Daughter. I enjoyed it but it was not my favourite… I much preferred Coast Road, Family Tree and The Summer I Dared. Next up is Ken Follett’s Fall of Giants.

Mac was adorable, whatever he was. This was the first year in 23 years that I didn’t make a single Halloween costume.

  21. Jane, Mac is just so adorable- love his costume! I am so excited to hear more about what you are working on next!!! Right now I am reading something different “Living Life as a Thank You”. It caught my eye in Barnes & Noble and I am really enjoying the insight in it!

  22. Hi Jane!

Reading now…. okay don’t laugh but I am re-reading the Harry Potter Books. The last movie comes out soon and I have a lot of times on my hands so I picked them up and am re-reading and re-enjoying! ๐Ÿ™‚ See ya Monday!

    Kit

    1. okay- actually that didn’t go far. I picked up the Frog Prince from my bookshelf because it’s a feel good book and I can relate to Holly at this point in my life. ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Mac is adorable. Really. And it IS possible that he’s either a cow or a panda; take your pick! (Matters not; he’s still adorable.)

I am just starting Ann Evans’ BEST FOR THE BABY. So far, so good!

  24. Awww! Mac makes a cute panda (with cow legs)! Bet he got lots of goodies.

Finishing up The Bourne Objective (Eric Van Lustbader); Hell, Yeah (Carolyn Brown) is on deck.

Also, my sister and I are very excited to meet and see you again on the 14th!

    Safe travels!!

  25. Hi Jane!

I’m having a tough time getting “into” any book lately but I think it’s just because I’m busy with school and SHOULD be reading textbooks. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have had Commencement on my nightstand for a week now and haven’t been too inspired! I need something to spark my interest ASAP! ๐Ÿ™‚

A trilogy would be AWESOME! I hope it works out for you!

Mac looks adorable, as usual! Hope you all had a great Halloween!

  26. Oh, I read “Dune Road”. It was good. I am reading “Friday Night Knitting Club – Knit 2”. It’s even better then the first one.

  27. cute pic !!

i’m reading Pregnancy Q&A by Trish Booth. With the due date is getting closer and closer. I need to re read this book ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. I’m reading a book called A Bride In The Bargain by Deeanne Gist- it’s about the Mercer Girls in the 1860’s and it’s quite enjoyable so far.

Can’t wait to see you next weekend!

  29. Currently reading Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts. Just finished Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. Both good reads. ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Mac is really cute in his costume. The fun part is that, at least my girls, they like Halloween for a long time and get more excited every year.
Right now I am reading two very different books: Out of captivity, surviving 1967 days in the colombian jungle, which is very interesting but not an uplifting read, and Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger to have a break when the other book gets tough to read.
Have fun with all your travelling and I hope to see you soon in Toronto.

  31. Hi! mac was a cute Panda, but he’s so cute anyways, I’d give him a treat just knocking on my door. I found this guy on your friends and he writes western stories so I got my son’s girlfriend to down load his 2 books on her kindle, one’s called Threads West an American Saga, what a book, couldn’t put it down. He writes with such passion, and I couldn’t put it down. It made me think about my own family coming from Italy and settling in Missouri and Calf. then my own grandparents moved to Ill. I’ve read it twice and did a presentation for my history term paper, got my first “A”. I’ve bought his book for a few friends for Christmas. Now I need a book to read now but just can’t find one, maybe I’ll win your contest..anyways, have a good week and I’ll cross-my fingers for your new book deal, I enjoy reading your books alot!

  32. I am trying to finish up “Fragile” by Lisa Unger. But I am dying to start my next book, “Good to Eat” by Stacy Ballis.

  33. good morning….i am reading the girl who played with fire…yikes!
i hope you have a safe and fun journey. great pics of mac!

  34. Just finished Robyn Carr’s Virgin River Christmas. I’ve really enjoyed that series and wish a town like that really existed. Now starting The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder by Rebecca Wells.

Mac looks very determined – cute!

  35. I am re-reading Frog Prince. I am dating again and wanted to lighten up about the whole disasterous adventure.I am going to BN this weekend to browse for a new one.

  36. Hi Jane

I have just finished reading Bride in a Gilded Cage by Abby Green , and currently I am reading Billionaire M.D. by Olivia Gates.

    Love your work !!

    Have a nice day

    Desere

  37. I just finished the Charlaine Harris – Aurora Teagarden Series (since I’ve read all of your books already! ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. I’m reading Jeannie Lin’s Butterfly Swords — so many of my friends have read this and given it rave reviews. I’ve only just started, and already I can see why they loved it!!

  39. CUTE picture!

I’m reading VIRALS by Kathy Reichs, while waiting for PLAY OF PASSION by Nalini Singh to arrive. Also, there is Nora’s HAPPY EVER AFTER. Three good books released in one day. Nov. 2 was a good day for me.

    Good luck with the proposal!

  40. I just started Rhyannon Byrd’s Edge of Desire. Mac looks very sweet. I remember when my girls started trick or treating. We used to have to make pit stops at the house because the bags got too heavy for them to cart around the block. Fun times. This year my oldest got braces so she was bummed there were so few options for her (she already has a peanut allergy). Basically her little sister got all her rejects and made out big time. Poor Faith. I console her with the fact in two years, she’ll have a dynamite smile and by then it’ll be Gracie’s turn to suffer…but I’ll still be paying out the nose for the orthodontist.

    Take care.
    Gibb

  41. Jane your little man is sure growing, he’s adorable.

Gena, The Frog Prince is still my favorite Jane Porter book. It’s the book of my heart.

  42. I’m reading The last book in a series by Beverly Lewis called The Revelation. It’s not something I ever thought I would enjoy reading but oddly enough, I like it!

  43. I just finished reading Belinda Carlisle’s memoir, Lips Unsealed. It was written so matter-of-fact. It seemed rather clinical. I didn’t get a lot of emotion from her writing. I have no idea what I feel like picking up next!

  44. Hi Jane!
I just finished Nicholas Sparks’ “A Bend in the Road” and am starting “The Rescue”, also by him.

What I’m reading this week, though, is my 6th grade son’s report on Pandas (due Friday), so I thought Mac’s costume was very appropriate right now for us!!!

    Have a great week!

  45. Hi Jane

Right now, I am reading something really out of the ordinary for me. My teens are reading The Hunger Games trilogy and those books are so unusual that I had to read them too, to see what all the fuss was about.
Just ordered from Amazon, and sitting on my desk, is Sophie Kinsella’s Mini Shopaholic. The Shopaholic books are very fun. I’m looking forward to starting it.

  46. Am getting great reading ideas by reading the comments.

Just finished “Cheap Cabernet” – a memoir by Cathie Beck. And am now reading “Sarah’s Key” by Tatiana de Rosnay… an interesting look at a horrible event in our history.

  47. Jane,
Mac is adorable – can’t wait for your next book/books.

I’m reading David Baldacci – the Whole Truth – then on to Nora Roberts.

    Have a great week.
    Dawn

  48. Cute pic of Mac!!
I am currently reading Lisa Scottoline’s Lady Killer. It is a couple years old. I read her current book Think Twice and am hooked.

  49. Hi, Jane.
Your little guy is so cute. Hope he enjoyed it all. My three year old did not remember last years Halloween activities so it all seemed brand new this year. Fun stuff. I’m currenlty reading A Summer Affair by Elin Hilderbrand, and have Willow by Lina Lael Miller waiting to be read. Enjoy your upcoming holidays with your guys. Lori H.

  50. I just finished “Best Friends Forever” by Jennifer Weiner. I was surprised at how much I liked this one. She’s a new author for me. Always fun to discover those! Will definitely be using your contest to find new ones. Next on my list is “South of Broad” by Pat Conroy. Hopefully another new author for me to enjoy while waiting for your new books!

  51. Hi Jane!

I am actually reading my very first Brenda Novak book, Killer Heat! I’ve been hearing so much about her and this series that i picked up the third book in the series at Walmart to give it a go. I’m about 3/4 of the way thru and it’s romantic suspense and i’m really enjoying it. I believe i’ll be checking out the other books in this series too.

    Lisa B

  52. I just whipped through “An Uplifting Murder” by Elaine Viets. Cute cow-panda, and fingers crossed for a new Jane trilogy!

  53. How cute is Mac whether he is a cow or panda! I just finished reading Freedom and have now started Saving Max by Antionette van Heugten. Interesting read so far!

  54. So glad the weather held out for Halloween! Looks like Mac had a great time.

I finished The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews last week and liked it so much that I just started reading Deep Dish (also by Mary Kay Andrews).

I love these posts. There are so many great book recommendations.

  55. Hi Jane,

Iยดm reading “Conversations with the Fat Girl” by Liza Palmer and I’m loving it. After reading “a field guide to burying your parents” I wanted to read her other books as well. So thanks for introducing me to her books ๐Ÿ™‚

  56. Hi Jane,
Love the photo of Mac ~ each year my boys get more into “trick or treating” too!

I’m in the middle of reading “The Sheikh’s Disobient Bride”. When I’m done, don’t laugh, I’m going to read Rick Springfield’s story, “Late, Late at Night”…I was a huge fan of his and recently had seen him on many talk shows discussing his book and his battle with depression, and I guess I’m a little intrigued. It will definitely be different reading for me. Lots of luck w/the trilogy, I’ll be thinking positive thoughts for you!!!
    Stephanie

  57. Hi Jane! My friend, Lisa, got me into reading your books & I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read! I was actually planning on attending the book fair in KY with her the 13th, but unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to make it. Bummer. ๐Ÿ™ Lisa will be there, however & is SO excited!

I actually enjoy reading Christian/Christian Fiction type books. I’m now reading the Left Behind series (LaHaye/Jenkins), which has been around for several years. I’m on book 8 of the 12 book series & really enjoying them!

  58. I just finished Dixie Diva’s by Virginia Brown and started Dawn’s Prelude by Tracey Peterson this morning while I was setting with my father in law. I set with him on Wed and Fri. he is getting in bad shape so he can’t stay alone. I set with him while my mother in law goes and to an exercise class and does her shopping.

  59. Mac does look so cute in his costume and you can tell he is having a wonderful time. I really enjoy treating the kids on Holloween myself. I even had a baby dressed us as candy corn and she was so cute.

  60. I am reading Open House by Elizabeth Berg. I have had a copy for quite some time just haven’t gotten to it. But lately I have been sseeing this book everywhere so I thought it was about time to get into it ๐Ÿ™‚

Love the picture, he is too adorable!

  61. Ugh. I’m reading research for my WIP. It’s both fascinating and depressing. Wish I was reading a happy romance instead. It’s After Abolition: Britain and the Slave Trade since 1807 by Marika Sherwood.

  62. Jane, what a cutie patootie Mac is.
I am going to start ‘It’s Always Something’ by Gilda Radner. She passed away from cancer and I’m a survivor of cancer and thought this would be good to read; it says ‘But the disease that ravaged her body and tested her will could not destroy her spirit. That is a magnificent way to see cancer.
I’d love some books/tea/sweets/SB card and goodies; thanks.

  63. Just finished “The Lover” and look forward to see the movie again on netflix. Lovely, sparse prose, just what my brain can handle right now – although it was not an easy read. Also just finished this years bag of candy corn and felt quite sick from it – looking forward to next years bag though.

  64. Looks like Mac had a great time thanks so much for sharing your pictures we always look forward to them. I am reading Water for Elephants. Good Read!

  65. Hola Jane!
Mac looks like he is having a blast.
Just finished reading She’s Gone Country for the 2nd time. The first time I was in such a rush to get to the end that when I woke up the next day I couldn’t remember part of the ending, so, I started over. Second time around I took my time and read the book. Glad I did.

  66. hi jane…your mac is adorable ๐Ÿ™‚

i am reading ‘a hope undaunted’ by julie lessman…and loving every single page of it.

i loved your latest book, too.

  67. I just finished The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon for my book group – very complex, strange story. I think I will re-read She’s Gone Country again next; I liked it a lot more!
Speaking of like, loved the pic of the trickster Mac.

  68. I just went to the library and picked up four books to read. Not sure which one I will read first. I will figure it out in about an hour though. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just went through a philosophical/religious reading spree and am ready for something a little less heavy and brain draining.

  69. Your Mac looks adorable and I’m looking forward to your trilogy! I’m reading Easy on the Eyes and the book truly resonates!

  70. Hi Jane!!!!
Right now I am not reading anything! I brought “Line of Scrimage” by Marie Force with me went I went to Vegas a couple weeks ago and read just a bit. I have a stack that I need to start reading again.

So excited for your new series!
(And so excited that you might be coming to Wisconsin in the spring!)
    XOXO,
    Monie

  71. Just finished Flirting with Forty.
    I have a stack to start…which one?
    Wicked Appetite-Evanovich
    The Help-Stockett
    The Last Days of Dogtown-Diamant
    Fall of the Giants-Follett
    In The Company of Others-Karon
All different, all good, can’t wait.

    1. I read the Help last month and it was fantastic! So multilayered. I couldn’t sleep because I kept thinking of the characters, got back up and read until 3 am.

  72. Hi Jane,

I love the picture of Mac in his costume. Kids are so adorable when they are that young – I still remember!

The book I finished reading recently was Still Alice. It is a story about a 50 year old woman who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. It was a good read.

I can’t wait to hear when you’ll be soon writing another novel.

    Take care Jane!
    Christine

  73. How cute! Panda or cow, who cares? Bring on the candy and doggies! Love it!

i am currently reading Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt. Love the book, and how I can just see the southern bells in all their glory.

  74. Hi Jane! I bet your editor will love your proposal…how could she not???

I just finished the Killing Game trilogy. Oh my gosh, I loved them, even though they were not my typical read. I am now reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, which, I believe, you had recommended. I’m really enjoying it!

  75. Sadly, it’s been so long since the last time I read a book (that wasn’t for children) that I can’t even remember what it was. In all honesty it may have been, ‘Easy on the Eyes!’ My girls (ages 2 and 5) have no patience for the adult side of the library but I put ‘She’s Gone Country’ on hold and can’t wait for my turn!!

  76. Hey Jane! LOVE Mac’s costume… Is it a panda?? Is it a cow?? There’s no need to decide!! (lol..little ‘Friends’ reference there).

The only thing I am reading now are my astronomy & Space books. I am definitely in need of some fun-reading book time!! :0)

  77. I’m in the middle of reading “Easy on the Eyes”. Love it!
I also work with children so I read young adult books too and just finished “Jump” by Ginger Rue.

LOVE books with great characters that suck you into their world….that’s why I’m a big fan of yours!

  78. Hi Jane!

Mac is so cute! I kinda thought cow too, but adorable and clearly having fun either way!

Exciting writing news! Is the trilogy for Harlequin or is it modern lit?

The last two books I read were Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger and She’s Gone Country, which I read in one day. Loved Shey’s story! I just started Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks and TBR pile has The Confession by John Grisham.

  79. what a precious little costume. Here’s to many more years of trick-or-treating costume/candy goodness!!

I just started “She’s Gone Country” by Jane Porter. After Melissa A’s recommendation of “A Vintage Affair” by Isabel Wolff, I couldn’t wait to start it. So I guess I’m reading both.

    Thanks for hosting the contest.

  80. I’m reading Anne Stuart’s BREATHLESS, last in the Rohan trilogy. Plan to reread SHE’S GONE COUNTRY next week to freshen up for our dinner! Can’t wait to see you and gab in person.

    How you doin’

  81. I am reading Liza Palmers “Conversations With A Fat Girl” and loving it! Spend most of my nights giggling in bed. ๐Ÿ™‚

  82. Sorry I mised getting together with you and the other IECRWA writers last week in Spokane, but the book I’m reading now is Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet by Sydney Ellison. I can’t wait to get back to this book each day, after a busy life. I’s wonderful and I am thoroughly enjoying it!

  83. Hi Jane,

I am glad you and your kids had a nice Halloween.
I am reading Whoopi Goldberg’s book “Is it Just Me? Or is it just nuts out there?” Very good and funny book that makes you think about certain things.

  84. Cute picture of Mac! What a fun age!
Right now I am reading 2 books: Seeing Me Naked by Liza Palmer and Here’s The Story by Maureen McCormick (most know her as- Marsha Brady.) ๐Ÿ™‚

  85. Hi Jane! I love that picture of Mac…too cute!! I’m so excited that you’re coming to Atlanta in a week, but I’m also really sad since I probably won’t be able to attend your reader dinner – I’m in school about an hour and a half away, and I’d have to skip a few classes in order to make it. =( It’ll be a blast, though, I’m sure, and hopefully you’ll be able to come back to Atlanta sometime soon!

Oh, and I just finished reading Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, and am now sadly stuck reading lots of case law for my upcoming finals. But I’ll be moving on to Paullina Simons’s The Bronze Horseman once the exams are over…can’t wait!

Hope you have a wonderful east coast trip! =)

  86. Hi Jane,
I just finished Bitter is the new Black by Jen Lancaster (by the way, a fellow Pi Phi). Love, love, loved it! I got a Kindle for my birthday (at the end of October) and I have been loving every minute of having a book readily available everywhere I go. I am reading Breakfast with Buddha and Golfing with God, both by Roland Merullo. Yes, at the same time, one’s a book and one’s on the Kindle.

I found out that I can pick up your Harlequin books for the Kindle! Yay! I am excited about reading them.

I hope you are doing well. It was such a pleasure meeting you a few months ago!!!!
    Hugs!
    Michelle

  87. Right now I am reading “Jessica Z” by Shawn Klomparens. Seems okay, though I haven’t read enough to get into it yet.

    nancyecdavis AT bellsouth DOT net

  88. I just finished A Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond and started Shadow Touch by Marjorie M. Liu.
(Don’t enter me, I already one the Biggie this year! I love seeing what everyone else is reading.)

  89. Hi everyone! Can’t believe it’s Friday already! Where did the week go?!?

Thank you to everyone for commenting. This was such a fun, popular contest that I’ll definitely do it again this next week (or maybe this weekend…) so check back and play again.

    The two winners are:

    #47 Crystal Posey
    #95 Laura Rachel Fox

Congrats and winners, shoot me a private email with your mail address so I can get your books, chocolate, tea, and Starbucks card to you! Enjoy!

  90. This week did seem to go fast. Hopefully the weekend doesn’t go by fast too. Usually the weeks drag along really slow for me. But, then I look back at the calendar and it’s already November. Where did the year go?

    Congratulations Crystal & Laura!

  91. How cute is Mac (and growing so fast). When we were at Woodland Park Zoo in Sept. saw they have what’s called Mini Panda Cows in the farm area – so everyone can be right as to what Mac was for Halloween ๐Ÿ™‚

I just finished She’s Gone Country the other day, just started Mini Shopaholic and have Breakfast at Sally’s: one homeless man’s inspirational journey lined up next.

    See you Sunday.

  92. Jane—I have to tell you that I LOVED She’s Gone Country! I did not put it down until it was over…I cried when it ended! Maybe it is because I have 3 boys I could relate but it was such a wonderful book. It has now surpassed Mrs. Perfect for my favorite! Hope to see the story continue later down the road…

  93. Spooky Little Girl by Laurie Notaro -fun and an imaginative concept. Talk about a life turned upside down, so to speak….

  94. I am reading Angela Thomas “Do You Know Who I Am?” Rich Sterns “Hole in Our Gospel” and your “Easy On The Eyes” (which is blending very interestingly timing-wise with Hole in Our Gospel since they are both about international missions). Thanks for all you!!!
