Dark Sicilian Secret is A Success!

I’m so excited!  A couple days ago my great, dear friend Megan Crane/Caitlin Crews gave me the heads up that my August 2011 Harlequin Presents release, A Dark Siclian Secret was the #1 eBook at eHarlequin.com!  For 24 hours I kept peeking at the link to see if she’d imagined things and she hadn’t.  It was right there, up at the top.

Well,  it’s not number one anymore, it’s now number two, but I am still thrilled!  I haven’t had a Presents out in the US for a long time and I’m so grateful my readers haven’t forgotten about me!  I work so hard at writing these books…there’s no churning them out.  They literally consume me, and challenge me, and nearly break my heart so I love it when readers embrace the stories, too.

To check out the other great ebooks selling hot over at eHarlequin, visit http://www.ebooks.eharlequin.com

And because you know me, and how much I love celebrating every good thing, I’m going to give five copies of A Dark Sicilian Secret away to five of you!  It’s a one day contest for my dedicated blog readers, and if you win and you’ve already got your hands on a copy of Vittorio’s sizzling story, then I’m happy to substitute another.  How to enter for a chance to win?  Tell me if you read ebooks and if so, on what.  And if you don’t read ebooks yet, is there a particular reason why not?  That’s it!  That’s all you have to do.  Contest runs through Wednesday night and I’ll announce my five winners Thursday morning.

Now I’m back to work on my next Harlequin manuscript, a story I’m hoping to finish in the next week and a half!

  1. I have romance books I can read on my computer, but I don’t own an e-reader, per se. I enjoy smelling a book, holding a book, and carrying a book. If I lose it or it drops in the water while bathing, I can easily get another without great expense (usually), as compared to an e-reader.
As for those books on my computer, I spend enough time on my computer every day as it is and don’t like spending any more time than necessary on it. I find it easier for my eye to whip along a printed page (like when proofreading computer work) than to read a screen. I don’t want carpel tunnel (again).

  2. I haven’t decided which ereader to get so I still read ebooks on my computer. I read paperbacks too.

  3. CONGRATS Jane! That’s wonderful and you should be proud!! I do not read e-books. I just enjoy having the book in my hand. I feel less rushed – if that makes any sense. I guess it’s just what I’m use too.

  4. No ebooks…ever! I am a BOOK person! Like the smell, like to hold them, like to fall asleep with them on my chest – like them at beach, home, bath, car, pool, gym, plane….don’t care how heavy they are. If a book upsets me, I want to be able to throw it. Every book is a memory for me…where was I when I read it..why did I read it…did I like it? Why? I write in every book I read…and when I lend them out, I make poeple sign the books and write their own comments. And I hunt them down if they don’t give it back. On the reverse side, I never give back books I borrow. That’s just the way it is:). If I read it…it goes on my shelf! I will go down kicking and screaming….clutching my 8 Track!!! Can you imagine a world with out book stores….NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  5. Hi Jane, congrats on holding down the #1 spot….#2 isn’t that bad either. You don’t have to count me in for the contest. I won this book for one of your last contest. Just wanted to show you some love. I’ll answer your questions though.

I don’t read e-books, and I don’t own a e-reader (yet). I have held out so long because I have a love affair with books. I love the feel and smell of them. I love the texture of the page and the sound it makes as you flip from one page to the next. I love how books fit in my hand. Holding a book makes the story feel more personal to me. It pains me to think I will have to get an e-reader so that I can enjoy my favorite readers in the future…it really does. There is just such a disconnect for me. I think machine, and am in a different frame of mind when reading on computer, right now. It will only get worse when I have to use a e-reader, and that scares me.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  6. Congrats Jane! That is awesome. So far I have not bought an e-reader, though I know my time will come. At this point I’m not sure what type to get….need to do a bit of research. I do love the feel of actual books though. I have fond memories of going to the library when I was a kid and just loving the looks of all the book stacks. So, though I know at some point I’ll end up with an e-reader, I know that I will never end my love affair with traditional books.

  7. Jane,

This such awesome news for you! I already won one of your contests awhile back and you sent me a copy of The Dark Scillian Knight and I loved it!

I have a nook color which I love, but there are several books I still buy in hardback or paperback!

    Congrats again!

  8. I’ve only read some as pdfs on the laptop (does that count?) I do prefer paper books but I’m ready to embrace the change.I guess it will come down to deciding what e-reader to use, and affordability. As long as writers keep writing – that’s the main thing. And congrats on the success of the book, Jane. I’m currently re-reading your single titles in no particular order – am reading Easy on the Eye at the mo. Loving it.

  9. Jane,

I read the nook on my iPhone first and got addicted to the convenience of it. Then I got an iPad and introduced to iBooks. They run lots of books for $2.99 or less, for short spurts of ttime. Nice inexpensive way to check out authors.

Nothing still beats curling up with an old fashioned book, and relaxing. 🙂

  10. Hi Jane

Congrats on the No 1 spot on eharlequin!

Thanks for your msg on my blog. It was fab to meet you too at RWA – what a lot of fun that was! Am SO envious of you being in Hawaii.

    x Lucy

    ps – I’m a Kindle fan!

    1. Megan, and there you are in your alter-ego as Caitlin Crews right up there with me at the top!! How cool to be in the top 5 with you!! Love you, girl!!

  11. I read both ebooks and print. I have a Kindle to read ebooks on, love it. I always said in the past that I like the feel of the paper book and would not get into ebooks, but I was wrong. I do like the feel of the paper book in my hand but when my son bought the Kindle I was hooked on reading on it. Love that you can get books so fast and you can increase the print size, which helps a lot with reading.

  12. Congratulations, Jane! It must be a really good book to be at #1. And being Italian myself, I am partial to tall, dark and handsome Italian men.
I don’t own an e-reader and I don’t know if I will get one in the near future. I love traditional books. I have a pile on my night table. My husband teases me about it, but when the pile gets a little smaller I have to make sure to get it back the way it was. I can’t bear the idea of not having anything to read!! My books are my moment of peace and relaxation, they are what kept me sane in the craziest moments of my life.
    Enjoy Hawaii!!

  13. I don’t have a Kindle yet to read e-books.
My daughter got one for Christmas and loves it. I still love a printed book but a Kindle sure is handy.

  14. I don’t have a kindle yet or a Nook, but I still prefer the feel of paper. I won “A Dark Sicilian Secret” from you and LOVED it. Congrats on being number one.

  15. I have read A Dark Sicilian Secret and loved it.
I do not have an ereader, but keep thinking about getting one. I haven’t taken the plunge, yet.
Congrats on #1!! I know it feels great!

  16. CONGRATULATIONS JANE!!!! I’m so happy for you. I love how surprised you are when people love your books…you’re an amazing author and people who read you tend to tell other people. I’m so proud of you 🙂

    1. And to answer your question- I don’t yet own an E-reader because I haven’t had the extra money to buy one but also because when it comes down to it, I love the feel of a paper book. I love book stores, the smell, the sights, the sounds…books are just awesome!

  17. Congrats on being #1 and #2…you are rockin’ it. I’m not into the ebooks, don’t have an ereader either. I enjoy the book in my hand and to bring as I travel and I also enjoy audiobooks when driving on trips too. It amazes me how much you get done with all you do, traveling, family and writing…you are an amazing girl and we’re all so lucky to have such wonderful writings from you, the super blogs you take time to write with us and the great contests that keep us going too! You are one of a kind…Ruth

  18. Oh, no, I might be too late! But at any rate, I have a Nook Color and I received an email from Amazon today telling me I should buy your new Harlequin! I almost forwarded you the email. Congrats!

  19. I don’t yet read ebooks (yet) simply because I have such a great stack of regular books to get through – and I just love holding them and turning the pages. Though I can see the appeal of ebooks and will probably break down and by a reader in the future!

  20. I love reading ebooks because they are so easy to check out. I have discovered the local library has a large selection on OverDrive. Great option!

Congratulations on such a great book! You go girl!!!

  21. Haven’t been able to give up the feel of paper. Plus when that flight attendant says to power down all electronic devices I can keep on reading!

  22. Congratulations!
Ebooks are a great, convenient way to get books when you forget to pack one along. I still love the feel of holding a book but great to have options. I have found an app on my iphone so you don’t have to have a kindle. Technology, amazing where it has gone. Keep up the great writing!

  23. I read ebooks and prints still pretty equally. I got a kindle in January for my birthday/christmas and have steadily been adding books since. Love it for taking with me on the go.

    Lisa

    Congrats Jane!!

  24. Absolutely, I love ebooks! I have a Kindle – actually, the Kindle is the most popular item in the house, second only to the computer. They (yes, we have more than one) are well used by adults and kids alike. I love real print books, too, obviously, but I can take more on my trips with me via the Kindle, than I can when taking separate books. I think this really hit home when I was flying to the east coast and wanted to take the latest Diana Gabaldon book with me. No way I was lugging that HUGE book on the plane – Kindle to the rescue! The next trip, I purchased a trilogy I’d been wanting to read – three books, that fit in my not-very-big purse. I love it!

Congratulations on the success of A Dark Sicilian Secret!

And good luck finishing the next book!
    SharonA

  25. Congrats Jane!! So happy for you. I don’t have an e-reader. I feel someday we aren’t going to need book stores and a library in the near future if everyone goes to the e-readers. I understand they are nice to have but I just don’t want actual books to become extinct.

  26. Congratulations on being #1! How exciting!
I don’t have an e-reader yet but I read them on my computer since you can download the nook and kindle apps and then download the book onto that.

  27. #1 is awsome! Congratulations! I don’t read ebooks. I just wouldn’t be comfortable sitting in this chair reading. I don’t have the kindle or any of those readers. So, I still read the paper books and enjoy them as much as ever.

  28. Congrats Jane on both #1 and #2. While I have an iPad, I do prefer to hold a real book.

    Best of luck to you!!

  29. Ah!! I am so excited! I didn’t know you had this out! How did I miss that announcement?? Congratulations! I will be reading this!

  30. Congratulations Jane!! Way cool!! I missed seeing the #1 status. Where you able to get a screen capture?

I don’t have an ereader but I have read ebooks in PDF format or windows readable formats. I don’t mind them but it’s not easy on my eyes.

  31. um.. okay in my excitement I forgot to answer the question. I read ebooks but prefer a hard copy. Between my husband and I we are a household that owns Nook Color and Kindle.

  32. Hi Jane! Congratulations on being #1/#2!! That’s amazing! And of course your readers haven’t forgotten about you…you’re one of the best Presents authors out there (in my opinion, anyway). It does kind of suck to have to wait longer now for your HPs, since you write them less frequently, but your books are worth the wait!

Anyway, I do read ebooks occasionally, and I just use the laptop version of Kindle. I still prefer physical books, but ebooks are nice since they’re sometimes cheaper.

  33. Hi! Congrats that your book is No.2 and not 1 anymore but what a thrill anyways. I don’t read e-books because i can’t afford a nook or a kindle.I wanted one for Christmas but my stove went out so my son bought me a stove and on my birthday i spent the week at my dad’s and that was more important then a nook! I enjoy turning the pages anyways..have fun at the beach with you 2 boys and surfer Ty! Enjoy!

  34. Jane, How very exciting to be #1 & #2! Congrats and thank you for all you do to bring us these books.
I would love, love to dig into one of your romance novels! I have never read an ebook, but got pretty excited about my son in law’s Kindle, when I visited them. (Christmas idea for yours truly??) Anyway, anything YOU write is fabulous with us.
*My husband is now a BIG fan too !

  35. Hi Jane,
I am hooked and in love with my Kindle. I received it as a birthday gift last year and I have loved every minute of it.

Congrats on #1 & #2! You so deserve it!
    Michelle

  36. Congrats on the ranking! That’s awesome! I have not read ebooks, but would love to start. My main reason I haven’t is I’ve had several paperbacks to get through since I got my iPad, but that is what I would plan on reading them on!

    Take care, Jane!

    Amy

  37. I resisted getting an e-reader for quite a while, but finally broke down a few months ago and bought a Kindle. I love it! I still buy and have my traditional books (and always will) but love the fact that I have copies of many books available in one place that I can just grab-and-go. Also very important to me (and a huge factor in deciding to get an e-reader), is the ability to adjust the font (which is becoming increasingly important to my aging eyes—LOL!). 🙂
p.s. Congrats on your newest success! 🙂

  38. I have not had to opportunity to buy an e-reader yet — probably not in my near future — just lost my job! (Previous job I worked at a book store — I do love actual books – but find the e-readers very practical — like vacation, travelling, etc — perhaps one day …)

  39. HI Jane I cant wait to read your new book! I dont read any e books. but i do love reading paperbacks. Happy Writing!

  40. Hi Jane,
Congrats! I am looking forward to reading it! I love the smell and feel of new books so it took me a while to consider an e-reader. Last summer I downloaded the Nook app on my phone and was hooked. I have a Nook e-reader because the e-ink feels more like a book but I have the Nook and kindle app on my iPhone and iPad, which are great when I travel. After reading In Dante’s Debt (thanks by the way :)), I opened up my Nook and purchased the rest of the Galvan books! No trips to the bookstore and as soon as I finish whatever I am reading I can start something new. There will always be some books I will still get in hardcover but I love love love my e-reader! Good luck with finishing your book. I hope your good writing days continue.
    Michelle

  41. I prefer to read books on my iPad using the Kindle app. Sounds like just my kind of reading 🙂 I still have a few of your books on “my must read next” list…. my friends all raved about having a book club with you there on Skype- so cool! I wish I could have been there.

  42. Jane, love your books have not read the new one yet.Dont have a e-reader.Love just picking up a book and reading it.

  43. So happy for you!! I do not care if I win. Just happy that all these good things are happening for you. Guess I live through others and maybe why I love books so much. I started reading ebooks but stopped after my last two computes crashed. Should have backed them up…oh well. Congrats! Cat

  44. Jane,
I don’t know why but I keep putting off getting a Kindle. I love holding a book. Someone tell me that you broke down and got a Kindle and I will not miss my books.
    Dawn

  45. Hola Jane! Great news for the book. As much as I love the smell of old books I have to admit that I soooo love my Kindle. Happy to report that Jane Porter has her own folder and slowly filling it up. I currently have 12 books in it now and Mary Janice Davidson is in 2nd with 8 books.

  46. Hi Jane,
I hate to admit that I do not read ebooks as I do not have an ereader & the screen on my iphone is simply just too small to read for long periods of time. I’m hoping to buy an ipad soon, but to be honest, for me, nothing replaces holding a great read.

    Melinda

  47. I haven’t read an e-book yet, because I just haven’t quite figured it out! LOL! I have an iPad, but barely know how to use it! Plus, I love the tangible feeling of a book. I have always been a lifelong reader, and currently am trying to reduce my expenses by requesting books through the library or re-reading books I already have, like Flirty with Forty! I just had a notice today that Mrs. Perfect is ready to pick up from the library. Can’t wait!

  48. I don’t read e-books. I like the old school paperback. I can tuck it in my purse & read it while I’m getting a pedicure or just hanging out by the pool with my granddaughter. I’d be afraid a kindle would get wet!

  49. First of all I read Dark Sicilian Secret and really enjoyed it so no wonder it was the #1 eBook at eHarlequin.com!

Second, I’ve been reading eBooks for a few years now since they are cheaper and it was easier for me to buy them and not pay for shipping to Israel and last month it got even easier for me to read eBooks since I bought a Kindle and now I can read eBooks whenever I want.
I still read a lot of print books but so many books today come out only as e Books or first as eBooks and them in print so this her the books I’ll read on my Kindle or books that are really hard to find in print and are available as eBooks

  50. If I read ebooks, it is typically on my computer or sometimes but hardly ever my iphone. I love to read them because they are cheaper and its easier for me try new authors out. If I really love a book I get both a hard copy and the ebook!

  51. I love, love, love my iPad in which I have the Nook, iBooks, OverDrive software to read books. I find the iPad easy to use with the treadmill and I can “carry” a ton of books on it without actually carrying a huge amount of physical books with me!

  52. Hi Jane ~ congratulations…I am so excited for you!!! So sorry I’ve been absent from blogging with you. I’m in the process of finishing an email to you. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about ereaders. Althoug I wish I did because I absolutely LOVED the excerpts I’ve read so far!!! You continue to rock and write amazing stories. I do love reading an actual book, like so many other fans. I hope you are feeling better. Enjoy Hawaii with your family:)
    Love ya,
    Stephanie

  53. HI Jane,

I had an eBook on my iPod Touch when I bought it – Winnie the Pooh 🙂 I have been “catching up” with it.

No, I’m not a bog eReader…..yet, but I’m quite sure it will grow on me.

Congrats on your #1 – that is awesome!!!

  54. I don’t read too much with my ereader…I still prefer a book, not to mention, my kids have a much better chance of leaving a paper back novel alone versus an ereader.

  55. I don’t read them because modern technology is not very nice to me.I am slow to change but I am steadily headed there. Congrats Jane!

  56. I am THRILLED you have a new book!!!Sounds like a great “read in the sun”! I have read all of yours, as you know, most more than once! As for Ebooks, I have not tried that yet.. I will for sure look into it.
Congrats on the sucess of your new book jane! it is no surprise!

    1. oops.. I do have a Kindle, which I love love, but still buy books! I love the look of a new book, the feel of it, and the smell of it!

  57. I don’t read ebooks. I just can’t imagine curling up on the couch or in my comfy chair with an ebook. I am on the computer typing most of the day for work, and the last thing I want to do is curl up with one! Love to flip the pages. Just one more page; well, one more chapter; well, maybe one more! Congrats on the success of the new book!

  58. I already have this Jane and I can yell from the rooftops that it totally deserves to be in that number 1 slot.

I love my Kindle and it’s so convenient when I’m hanging around waiting for kids, but it will never replace books for me

Great to see you in NYC
    xxxx

  59. Jane,
I can’t wait to read it! I just finished The Sicilian’s Defiant Mistress and loved it!! Couldn’t put it down. So proud to call you a friend as well as my favorite author!! You work so hard and deserve the #1 spot and high praise!
    Cindy

  60. I was reluctant to read on an e-reader, until I got my Kindle for my birthday! Now I love having access to my entire pile of books to read without all of the bulk. I carry it with me in my purse and even to church where I can look up scriptures. I don’t know what I’d do without it although I still have all of my regular books and enjoy browsing through bookstores!

  61. Congrats, Jane. I do read ebooks, but since I don’t have an ereader I read them on my computer.

  62. Hi everyone,

  63. Hey CONGRATS Jane on the great sales of your e-book!! 🙂 Too awesome!! Congrats to the blog winners too.

I like reading e-books from book sellers, but I really prefer a paper book. I especially prefer the hard copy book if its a textbook for a class.

Keep up the awesome work chica – looking forward to your next story!! ~

  64. Congratulations to the winners!! Don’t forget to email, Jane for your prize.

    Peace and love,
