Impostor Syndrome?

Right now I don’t feel like a real writer.   Maybe its because I haven’t been writing for a number of weeks and I have a big deadline bearing down on me.  It will be good to get back to my desk in January.  I’ll probably have a lot fewer pep talks with myself when I do.   I think it’s strange that not writing for a few weeks makes me feel like a pretend writer.   I didn’t feel like  a faker when I was a teacher.  I didn’t feel like a faker when I was in PR and sales and marketing.  So why do I feel like a faker when it comes to being a writer? Yesterday after … Continue reading Impostor Syndrome?

Munich

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful sister tag suggestions.  Loved them.  Love you.  You are the best of the best.  Feel so fortunate to have readers and friends like you.  Speaking of reading, I just finished a fantastic Georgette Heyer, Faro’s Daughter, and it was truly wonderful.  Faro’s Daughter and Arabella have to be my two favorites so far…and that’s saying something as I really love Heyer’s writing. Later today I will be heading to Munich with my son Ty to celebrate his 13th birthday.  We come home Sunday so its a very short trip, but Ty didn’t want to miss school and I wasn’t thinking, so we’re traveling all that way to spend two full days in Germany, … Continue reading Munich

Home for Halloween!

Returned home yesterday evening and have just slept for 10 hours and am feeling human again.  Its great to be back.  We had a fantastic trip but started missing the kids terribly about five days ago.  Ten days is a long time to be away from them, especially the two younger ones. Ten days just made Mac grow up even more and he’s talking nonstop about everything, but his favorite topic right now is Halloween.  He’s so excited about Halloween and attended a Halloween party while we were gone, and has been wearing his costume every chance he can.  I’ll share photos of him in his costume on Halloween but love this one below of my two toddler ‘babies’ at … Continue reading Home for Halloween!

Daddy, Mommy, Baby

Love the way 2 1/2 year olds look at the world.  Mac had visited a pumpkin patch earlier in the day with Jamette, his ‘other mother’, and an amazing part of our family, and at dinner when he was in his high chair he spotted the three pumpkins sitting on the kitchen counter and cried, “Oh, Daddy, Mommy, Baaaabbbby!  A family!” and I loved it.  Love how he thinks and associates and all the funny things he says. Tomorrow Ty and I fly out to London and then overnight in Windsor, grab a fly Thursday morning to Venice, and then on Sunday grab another flight to Dublin, and then one more flight to London for a few days before coming … Continue reading Daddy, Mommy, Baby

Work, Work, Work

I’ve had my head down the past few weeks, writing feverishly and sitting long hours at my computer, to meet my October 15th deadline. Meg’s story, the first in the Brennan trilogy, is really shaping up and I’m so excited about the next two stories in this trilogy, too. Meg’s book will be out next September, with Kit’s in Spring 2013, and Sarah’s in Fall 2013.  It sounds like a long time away but I do have several Harlequins out before then and they are really fun reads! To spotlight my newest Harlequin release, Mistletoe Wishes that includes my Venice Christmas novella, I posted a new blog yesterday on the Harlequin Presents website about my wedding (we romance readers love weddings!) … Continue reading Work, Work, Work

Wedding

The wedding was great.  Had so much fun.  I should say more but I’m wiped out, and have so much writing to do today that my head is buzzing with noise, so I’ll just share a few pics and promise to return later today or early tomorrow with some more. Favorite things about the wedding?  The friends and family who came.  The cool retro feel of old Las Vegas with the wedding chapel, the pool side cocktails on top of Binion’s with the setting sun in the background, and then entering Binion’s Steakhouse on the 25th floor and discovering the glamorous red and black color scheme…black table cloths, red roses, red glass votives glowing with light and the little black … Continue reading Wedding

Craziness

I’m walking out the door in ten minutes to grab kids from school and head to airport for Las Vegas.  I’m a little bit nervous from all the last minute things to do.  I’m not a calm traveler until I hit the plane, and then I chill.  But I always stress a little about packing, getting to airport, parking, checking in, getting through security, boarding the plane…silly, but that’s me. My crazy Ty Gurney headed off on his motorcycle last Friday for a solo trek to Vegas and has had quite an adventure.  He’s my guy.  Can’t quite believe that two people so opposite work so well, but we do.  People always say we have a fairy tale relationship and … Continue reading Craziness

Photos from Mt. Etna!

I’m busy writing, writing, writing right now, so today’s blog post is just to lead you to a bunch of super fun photos! Mt. Etna erupted this past Monday, August 1st. Mt. Etna is in Sicily, Italy. It blows my mind because, even though it is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, I was walking around it just a few months ago, when I took a holiday to Sicily with my all my big guys this past spring. It was such a wonderful trip. Besides excellent family and tourist time, my new book A Dark Sicilian Secret takes place in Sicily so there was a lot of research, too. I find Sicily a perfect romantic setting… Be … Continue reading Photos from Mt. Etna!

Happy July 4th!

Happy 4th of July to all my American readers!  I can’t believe it’s already the 4th…summer is definitely rolling right along! I’m back in Honolulu after 6 whirlwind days in New York for the annual RWA conference.  As some of you know from Facebook, I arrived in NY sick and unfortunately got sicker…requiring a visit to a doctor and antibiotics and steroids to try to kick my system into gear.  I’m still not 100% but I’m back in Hawaii where the warm fresh air will certainly help me boot the last of these infections. Considering I wasn’t at my best in NYC, I still really enjoyed this conference…perhaps more than any other in years.   I was able to meet … Continue reading Happy July 4th!

NYC Reader Get-Together

I haven’t been blogging much since I’m writing hard (hard, hard, hard!) on my Harlequin trying to get it in.  It was due June 1st so you can see why I’m frantic and I leave Sunday for the massive but amazing annual RWA conference, which takes place this year in NY’s fantastic Times Square. I heard from a couple readers in the NY area that they want to see me so I’ve thrown a fun, quick reader get together for NY.  I have to limit the headcount due to hotel seating caps, so it is first come, first serve if you want to join in the fun! And now the details for the get-together… What:  Join Jane Porter & Friends … Continue reading NYC Reader Get-Together
